also just as a general FYI, this particular folder is set so that guests can post to it. so - even without a SN, people should be able to post in this one folder. haven't tried it out, but that's how it's set up.

I really should probably spend more time just posting and making the board what it's about in stead of obsessing over the "first step". Though having a solid design in place now would be much better than having it later. but it's kinda eroding my enthusiasm. so maybe I should give it a rest for a bit and just do fun stuff on here.

looking at some stuff. I have some plans, but they're on hold til I can get the look of the place hammered out, which is going super super slow. for now, basically all we're going to have is a functional message board that's kinda ugly. I've been messing with several different possibilities there. Problem is (well one of them) is I have very little time to do stuff. Around mid-January I'm guessing things will slow down enough that I can try to get somewhere I want to actually be with the message board. for now it's gonna limp along as is. I'm at kind of an unhappy place right now, because my job sucks (doesn't everyone's?) and they're demanding a lot of my time. Frankly they don't deserve it. But they're getting it because paycheck. I may plod ahead without getting the design right. But the design is way more important than I suspect anyone out there realizes. The only example I can provide is - if you look at the Proboards forum, just the simplicity of how it looks without all the dumbass dividers and background graphics and fucking ridiculous-ass shades of grey and whatever other dumbass shit they put in these dumbass themes. The Proboard is black, white - simple lines, the blue links add a nice touch of color, but not too much. the only thing wrong with it visually is the SN colors don't show up on the list. But the point being - that board is something that people look at and want to use. It doesn't make people go "oh what a pretty board" or anything like that. It's just pleasant and simple and inviting. the fucking themes for SMF are pretty much all just - stupid. full of pointless graphics that stick out like sore thumbs and random color schemes and just - like awful. We couldn't use Proboards because they have mandatory ads, they don't allow for the content to move to another software package, and the content restrictions are silly and random. On SMF, with the fapptron 2000 server, we don't have to worry about the board content, it's ours to keep and move as we need to, no ads, and no content restrictions. we need all that stuff. BUT - the Proboard (at least design-wise) is pretty fucking close to perfect. The feat I'm attempting atm is to marry those two things. So we have our data here, no restrictions, no ads, etc, but it looks and functions more simply (IE more like the Proboard).

also yeah, while it seems like we still get a few new users a week, the boards won't pick up for probably several months. At least, we won't be sharing the url/board location/link beyond just word of mouth for awhile yet. first I want to get the theme set and most of the glitchy stuff hammered out, which is going to take me awhile because i dono what i am doing. so - basically it's just us for awhile here probably.

we could be the gilding guild and cover people in gold so that their wealth and power will be maximized when they are looked upon by those who would otherwise not know of their vast wealth and power due to IGNORANCE which we then dispel with our activities but we ourselves never reach that level of wealth and power because that is not our place. Ours is simply to gild those that come by it honestly by existing in the world as wealthy and powerful individuals, doomed to never be that which we do. it will be a sad and ultimately unfulfilling thing to do, but WHAT ELSE IS THERE??

it's funny that I JUST mentioned the show and this week's episode (the one that just aired) was kinda sucky. Or seemed a little sucky to me at least. but - most of the time it's pretty funny.

we may experience some down time during the setup of the new server and such. shouldn't be too long though.

volunteers aren't supposed to fuck with people's shit unless they ask em to. and they have to ask EXACTLY like that. They HAVE to say it like "please fuck with my shit". Otherwise it is NOT POSSIBLE for volunteers to fuck with anybody's shit. people can edit posts now but regular users can't delete a post.

for some reason they don't resize right. but I don't know what that reason is and do not possess the knowledge to figure it out quickly. So at some point it is something I would like to take care of. But it will have to be at such time as I have finished with the theme and a few other things.

He may just not be totally comfortable with all the aspects of management. so some things freak him out or cause him to dread an exchange and it comes out weird or something. One thing I've seen a lot of is how managers are held accountable for managing. Often they get in the way of the process too much. But then if they don't, their bosses are all like "why aren't you in the way? why aren't you controlling these aspects of this office?" etc. I think it can create a sort of pressure that - like can come out in those ways. Probably if he felt no pressure himself, he wouldn't be projecting that pressure in the ways that he seems to, creating the awkwardness. Even when you deal with "subordinates", it's a negotiation. A manager is negotiating how to run things, how to deal with the individual, the situation, etc. Trying to figure out on the fly what they have to say, how to say it. Most people aren't good at that. Almost everyone makes mistakes on the fly. That awkwardness is probably just that. And possibly something you or I would also create in that situation. Maybe with some more individualistic nuances. But it would probably exist in some form or other.
