  4. I was just saying, I think this is by far the best season of the show. Just in terms of the general production and story quality episode for episode, and also how the episodes interconnect into the larger season. My experience with this show is usually up and down and up and down, good episode, then a band episode, or just within episodes - good scene followed by bad scene, cool thing followed by "wtf" thing, etc. But for me, the first 3 episodes of Season 7 are just about perfect. And 4 was good, not quite up to that standard, and then 5 was again a very good episode. so 1 out of 5 so far, and even the "1" wasn't so bad. This is the first season of the show that has managed to keep its creative head above water for the longest time for my money so far. we're halfway to the midseason break, and almost all the eps have been pretty stellar.
  5. I was kind of expecting the story to slide a bit more with each episode after last week. but that did not happen with this one. I thought 705, focusing on the Hilltop and Maggie and Sasha, Jesus, Gregory, Enid and Carl, was just another damn good episode. I'm super impressed with this season so far. It really hasn't been plagued at all with the usual problems the show tends to run into. There were hints of that in 704. But this episode pulled it right back up to that higher plane of the first three eps. I love the Jesus/Gregory dynamic, those two characters. I liked the subtle growth in Sasha, Enid actually came across as a real character in this episode as well. Another really well paced, tightly scripted, and well executed story. Great episode, but also perfect in terms of story progression and fitting into the season as a whole. I honestly think this is the best this show has ever been. There have been some spectacular moments, but just in terms of overall consistency and general quality, season 7 is blowing all the other seasons out of the water for me.
  6. I wonder if that has anything to do with why Million dollar Extreme just kinda vanished from the airwaves. Not the article, but - well nvm it was probably just nobody watched it. but it was tough to find when it was on, and then feels like it ran once and that was that. Haven't seen or heard about it since. certainly though - you know, the ASMB was attractive to alt-right type posters, who first came there through the block. ASMB was never a sort of leftists paradise or whatever. It always had a pretty extreme-right element. I mean always. so - you know, in its way, that may have been a sort of early indicator of where things were headed.
  7. part 3
  8. into every life an occasional lag spike must jag. as i understand it, we'll be on firmer ground possibly within a few weeks.
  9. Facebook has reduced my ability to want to communicate on Facebook.
  10. ch - eras are so 90s. epochs. Now those are fuggin cool.
  11. THAT DINT HAPPEN
  12. this all sounds like a terrible business model.
  13. updated it. i thought they just got auto-accepted but I guess I have to manually unlock user created quizzes.
  14. cobbled together with cheap animation and the original audio tracks, BBC has restored to life the lost Doctor Who chapters "The Power Of the Daleks" from 1966
  15. Profile>Look And Layout>Current Theme>Change>Select Desired Theme. the current default theme (dark don) should function with everything. but it's kind of not great in terms of fonts and text backgrounds (the lighter shades annoy me, I'd rather have just black reply boxes w/white text also more font colors seem to show up better on dark backgrounds than light backgrounds but there it is).
  16. they don't really work. we had them - either on Prospero or when we first transferred to Lithium on ASMB. And they simply didn't work. for one thing, there was an indicator in threads that there was a missing post that people would get confused about and post about. and even without that it didn't take somebody long to figure out that nobody was responding to posts and they'd just make another SN. Basically we stopped using them and they were disabled and/or done away with in the software we were using. I think it must have been early Lithium.
  17. that was the person who posted the thread. the OP requested the thread be axed. so a mod moved it off board.
  18. I'm caught up.
  19. basically if you want to like a post you like the post, if you want to karmify the user, you click the user. post likes is a separate stat from karma. atm there's no way to marry the two.
  20. Default board theme is being reset to "Dark Don" to change it to something else: Profile>Look And Layout>Current Theme>Change>Select Desired Theme here is why Dark Don: it's the only theme that provides 100% functionality with the mods/plugins. you can go into your profile and chose another theme if you prefer a different aesthetic BUT all the mods and board features will only work on Dark Don or Curve. This isn't by design. It's just how themes work with SMF. almost all the themes aren't compatible with a large section of mods. Dark Don isn't a particular aesthetic preference of mine. I'm using it as the default theme because it's closest I can get to what I want while still maintaining full mod functionality. we may be attempting to tweek the look of this theme as time marches on. But for now it's the best we got I think.
  21. basically the fan fiction section has tools that warn readers of adult content. As long as people have clear warnings before they stumble upon it - I don't much mind for the most part what people post. As long as people are spoiler/content marking their posts and/or using the content warning tools in the Fan Fiction section with sufficient content warnings etc, it's not an issue particularly. Though we obviously reserve the right to remove stuff. Generally though I don't think we will do a lot of that (content related purgings and/or bannings). It would be different if - like somebody was attacking the board w/pron images in a seemingly malicious context. But stuff that just comes up in regular course of posting, or part of a pic posting thread, or a story that's got mature content etc, isn't something we're going to plan on deleting/banning about. Rather, the current policy is just to spoiler mark objectionable content (stuff that gets reported) with a content warning just above the spoiler box. That may change. Like I don't want this to turn into a pron board or something. But at the moment that's how we're handling content.
  22. good episode (4). The first three spoiled me with how amazing they were, so it was inevitable that eventually that pace would lapse. I felt did in this episode. and - that in no way makes this a bad episode. Because the first three I thought were way good. Like among the best (if not the best) episodes the series has produced so far. Where I tend to get annoyed with the show is how they seemingly insist on investing in peripheral character in terms of screen and story time, but don't really invest in the overall writing and creation of those characters. Many of them behave relatively inexplicably, turning on a dime to service the plot with no real attempts to delve into motivations or anything like that. Seemingly because the characters aren't complete enough for the writers to really understand or care. It's particularly glaring on the heels of the first three episodes, which were fantastic character studies, very well focused and tightly written. When they - sort of feel compelled from a story perspective to return to Alexandria as the story takes its next step, which is establishing the relationship/routine between the Saviors and the Alexandrians. It was a fairly nicely paced chapter in that descent. A little too much of it felt kind of surreal with no real emotional payoff or particular depth of character. Like "hey I want Daryl's bike go git it" "okay we will go get daryl's bike now for you" "okay well I will be right here waiting for that" "k we'll go get that now". And then the stakes with the search the whole "find me those guns or Olivia gets it" stuff was just - put too much on a character that nobody really knows about or particularly cares about. I mean - she's another one of those vaguely fleshed out characters. Kind of fodder really. There are too many of those. Too much of that in the series. And that's where they always lose their footing I think is - sort of selling themselves on "okay this is where the story needs to go - so we'll make this character do that" rather than cultivating a more organic approach. It tends to create a perception that characters really don't matter as people, more just as plot advancers. When characters are dismissed in that way in the writing, I think it makes them that much more difficult to embrace or care about by people who are watching the show. Having said all that - 704 had a lot of ground to cover and the first three eps were a tough act to follow. So, while I felt it was uneven, and fell into some of the obvious pitfalls the series seems to routinely fall into, but still good.
  23. yeah a lot of times, with this Clueless Gamer thing - the game looks good even though Conan is bitching the entire time (which is funny) but this time I was kind of like "rly?" - a lot of stuff doesn't look - that great. And then the guy walking them through it does not help at all with - like the one cool thing was the giant worm creature and he was all "it takes 72 real time hours to kill it" and I'm just sorta - uh no. I like FF games. But - this one doesn't look - like something I want to necessarily grab up right away. Maybe wait a bit til the price goes down or something.
  24. yeah there's actually all kinds of stuff we can do. From various types of bans to shifting forum permissions such that specific users can't access posting areas. I actually think there are more tools at our disposal than ASMB had in any of its iterations. But having said that, I truly hope we won't really have to ban anyone either. And the content standards are vastly different, as is the general approach to moderation. so - it's kinda like - we don't need to use those types of tools as much on this board as we did on ASMB, but also if we have to, we actually have a whole bunch of different stuff we can do on this board that we couldn't do on that board. so maybe a little irony there.
