    Nice, had flaws, particular in terms of lack of smooth progression, but still had a lot of fun watching once it got going. Hopefully it airs here on Toonami.

    Yeah, I recall it being praised as one of the best looking shows of its season, at least in the early eps, at least from my recollection of that period when it came out without looking. It was like A-1 Pictures doing BONES. Plus I remember some great detailed background art for the modern parts of the setting, at least in early on since I've got to imagine that's where my memories must be from. Also kind of remember a strong early impression of big rule-of-cool shots/animation cuts (like say Soul Eater).

    Only really thought of it as at the most basic both are pretty straightforward shonen with production values being their standout feature. But yeah, like I said Demon Slayer is much better executed in both telling its story in a highly refined manner and also in tone with stronger events fitting the concept like you said. Though to be fair to Blue Exorcist I've never read the source manga to really judge its execution outside of it's flawed anime adaptation. Yeah, it's been a long time, so it's hard to describe well since I haven't seen it anytime recently, but I do recall similarly that the first couple of episodes when it was darker and briefly teasing perhaps something like a slightly older audience shonen, and still felt like it could be more toward "a modern day FMA" (sorta), like a "shonen+ or something", if that makes sense, were more the concept I was expecting initially from Blue Exorcist, before they really started the school stuff.
