I think it's attributed to Gero activating the obedience circuit in Trunks' timeline as opposed to not doing it in the regular timeline. I think a downgrade in power was mentioned if the circuit was activated.

I believe it was the director that said that, but Sunrise, the company that owns the rights to CG, was ambiguous on that. I always figured that if they thought they could make money on a Season 3, they'd do it. But, yeah, it definitely looks like he got that Code Geass power. The trailer has a close-up shot of him at the end.

Then it was some other mechanical fluid. I don't know what goes into futuristic robots. The Mega Man X series did the same thing. The Reploids would "bleed" reddish-brown fluid that was oil or something but meant to symbolize blood loss. Toei just did the same thing with 16. It's canon that Android 16 was entirely mechanical.
