Oh, you haven't seen anything yet. It will be pretty funny in 2018 to watch Super Buu and Asta out-scream each other in the 11 PM hour! -
Dragon Ball Super Episode 44 Discussion

That's right! Kudos to FUNimation for getting him, since he just happens to be the Ocean Dub Vegeta from the Rock the Dragon collection! So a nice little nod to the history of DBZ dubs there! -

DeMarco deconfirms more shows, admits One Piece bombed.
OwlChemist81 replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Well, I get why One Piece was cost-prohibitive. FUNimation and TOEI were probably only selling it in "seasons", and it just wasn't justifying the astronomical cost of picking up an entire season. OP on [as] got 3 seasons on Toonami, and a total of well over 150 episodes. Each season is probably a block of 52ish episodes, and at least we got Foxy, Water 7, Enies Lobby, Accino Family, and Thriller Bark. That's quite a lot. Also, I think we'll still see new seasons of stuff like AOT, One-Punch Man, Lupin, and of course, JoJo and Gundam. The reason Toonami chooses to stick with a few key franchises is it's much easier to work with the same Japanese companies over and over than it is different Japanese companies, and once you've got an "in", you've got an "in." Getting shows on the air in the U.S. isn't as easy as going to their American distributors (e.g.: Viz, Funimation, etc.); you often have to go back to the Japanese companies and make agreements with them too, and that's probably the main reason why shows such as My Hero Academia, Mob Psycho 100, and Ancient Magus Bride are off-limits right now, not so much competition with other American streaming distributors like Netflix and Hulu. But it is kinda weird that Sentai, which aired shows on Toonami during arguably one of their hottest periods in late 2015 and early 2016, hasn't had much to do with them since the Children Who Chase Lost Voices DST special event and has opted for the mind-boggling confines of Anime Strike instead. Probably the only worse thing you can do for your shows than airing them on TV in the dead of a Saturday night is getting them stuck behind a DOUBLE pay wall. But I digress. The question is, would Toonami, who hasn't dealt with Aniplex since acquiring the rights to SAO II, pick up Season 3? I would definitely say if Hulu really is ALREADY done with Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga (wasn't streaming in November) and it shows up at 1:30 next year to replace Lupin the 3rd, then that's a sign that Toonami is back on with Aniplex and properties in Japan it has previously worked with, and Season 3 is indeed on the way, but even if that doesn't happen it's not necessarily a deal-breaker. With SAO II doing gangbusters after the modest success of the first season of SAO, I'd say they'd be nuts to pass it up. -
Toonami Will Run A Cowboy Bebop Marathon For Christmas
OwlChemist81 replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
But we got one last Christmas! I have faith that it will happen again someday, just not with this 2-parter obsessed arc. I get it; if JoJo had been chosen instead of Bebop, then it would be episodes 8-18 instead, and I guess that would have worked out pretty well, since the Rape Ape episode would have been before the cutoff. But maybe the Egypt Arc next year (I don't see JoJo going anywhere in February) will be better for a marathon? And it should REALLY hit its stride around Memorial Day, so don't give up hope! I guess I got to see Polnareff getting shocked at a pig in the toilet enough times when JoJo: Stardust Crusaders Episode 10 appeared on the Toonami Marathon Stream. And Gundam IBO Episodes #26-#30 are currently streaming over there so I'm also getting to see the opening sequence of #26 enough. Those 2 episodes I lost part of when my satellite glitched. Also the first episode of the volleyball sequence of Hunter x Hunter. -

More like Chiller's ill-fated anime block in 2015 that lasted all of 3 weeks, at a time when Toonami on [as] was at its zenith! It's not. The polls weren't open during the block; they were 7 AM-7 PM yesterday like always, but that isn't the point. Just fun to see which shows on the lineup beat the voter turnout for either candidate. But since one is just in the state of Alabama and the other is nationwide, kinda like comparing apples and oranges! It was just a goofy thing kinda like when [as] was using city populations to describe ratings in the Numbers Game in early 2008. -

The final turnout in the Alabama Senate Special Election was about 1.2 million, which means that fewer people watched Dragon Ball Super on Toonami last weekend. And more voted for Roy Moore than watched JoJo: Stardust Crusaders. -

The thing is, it SHOULD make sense as an 11:30 show. It's by far the show with the newest animation on the block (the next freshest animation I believe is Gundam IBO and before that Dragon Ball Super), and it SHOULD have the same sort of appeal that made Bleach and Soul Eater great. But I would also say that greatness has yet to manifest itself. Also, this week was light on college football, so it made sense that it was alright for fighting. UFC Fight Night is not an every week occurrence, and yes we have one this week but it's early. Boxing on ESPN is still quite uncommon. But next week we WILL have lots of College Football Bowl games. Let's see what it can do with its 3rd episode, but I wonder if it can carry 11:30 for long next year... -

All the other shows were chumps, but at least DBZ Kai and Black Clover did markedly better it total viewers, but not demographics. Just 2 hours into Toonami, the 18-34 numbers plunged under 0.3, which most likely means fewer than 200K in that demographic were watching. This is something which might not need to change, but SHOULD change in the new year. It will be interesting to see how well the marathons do. -

No, I'm thinking that when St. Patty's day falls on a Saturday, it's a big enough event that they might want to reach for a marathon. But unlike Halloween and the 4th of July (the latter of which I believe will NOT get a marathon in 2018), ONLY when it falls on a Saturday. -
What will Toonami's first new show of 2018 be?
OwlChemist81 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato) 2199 would fit the bill on Seinen action, right? I daresay Lupin is Seinen. Comedic slapstick Seinen, but Seinen nonetheless. Replacing it with a shonen such as Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga would be a mistake. -
Who knew the theme of tonight would be calming babies down? DB Super and Black Clover so far in my Monday daytime viewing of Toonami, because I was just TOO DARN SLEEPY after waking up in a cold house at 7 AM Saturday morning and I did stay out until Midnight so I got to see Lupin live and--that's pretty much it. I actually like this show. Excessive flashbacks, but I feel it's pretty well done. No worse than Bleach was, anyway. And that was some really cool animation for when he finally vanquished the bastard!
