Kickstarter underway to bring back Tenchi Muyo! with the original characters and English VAs

You know, after the last few Tenchi projects bombed (including the one that aired on Toonami), it's nice to see some people trying to make an effort to bring it back to its original glory.

Also, as a query, when they say the original English voice cast, they mean all of them right? They're all still alive and whatnot and active?

They bombed because it’s 2026, there are countless harem series that blow Tenchi completely out of the water. This is a franchise that needs to be left in the 90s where it belongs. 
 

Baffling to me that people think a return to cringy 90s era harem humor, topped off with dogwater 90s dub VAs, many of which likely haven’t even touched voice work in decades, would be anything but a colossal failure. 
 

But I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, Kickstarter is where bad ideas go to propagate.

Any goodwill Tenchi as a franchise had evaporated decades ago, and trying to make a sequel to Universe which as a continuity had a ton of issues (although from what I understand, Tenchi Forever did a decent job of wrapping that continuity up with a neat bow) just feels like trying to go back to a long dry well.

I mean, I wouldn't be inherently opposed to a Tenchi revival.

At the same time? If you're flaunting your revival as "just like the 90s", that funding should be put into simply rebroadcasting the original dub instead. You'd still be promoting the Tenchi franchise, and less money is spent bringing it back.

Then again, I'm not a content creator like these guys claim to be...
