When you have more money than most European nations, but no idea how to use it, Amazon Studios is the result.  Some choice quotes -

On the series side, numerous sources say they cannot discern what kind of material Salke and head of television Vernon Sanders want to make. A showrunner with ample experience at the studio says, “There’s no vision for what an Amazon Prime show is. You can’t say, ‘They stand for this kind of storytelling.’ It’s completely random what they make and how they make it.” Another showrunner with multiple series at Amazon finds it baffling that the streamer hasn’t had more success: Amazon has “more money than God,” this person says. “If they wanted to produce unbelievable television, they certainly have the resources to do it.”

Hunters and A League of Their Own, which is ending with a truncated season two, stand out as expensive disappointments of the Salke era. The latter cost in the ballpark of $90 million for eight episodes, including a premium paid to Sony for certain rights.

A separate article also pointed out that Amazon tried pitching a detective shows to focus groups about a black detective that was dealing with systemic racism.  The focus groups rejected it in favor of a competing show…that was sliced up episodes of Starsky and Hutch.

As someone who has to deal with Amazon for multiple business reasons and constantly watches them throw money at the wrong thing while spending pennies on what they should be stuffing with cash, I BEEN KNEW! They swipe great ideas or companies to add to their brand, run them into the ground in record time by having the biggest fuck-ups they could find put in charge of them, they don't make the profits Amazon wants because again fuck-ups are in charge, and then they remove any real support from that project so it's run by a skeleton crew until Amazon totally forgets about it or shuts it down.
