little_girl_lost
when the label says "Total Sugars 2g, Additional Sugars 2g" does that mean there are 4g of sugar or are the additional sugars included in the total? note, i'm aware this is a stupid question, but i believe the sugar industry makes nutrition labels intentionally confusing
cyberbully
4 total. Total sugars might be the natural sweetness and other sugars is probably just a way to avoid putting high fructose corn syrup on there. Granted, this isn't fact, just what I would ascertain knowing that hfcs has been being removed from labels... Not products
little_girl_lost
i'm trying to lose weight by cutting sugar out of my diet (or at least limiting my sugar intake to less than 10g a day), but it seems like the sugar companies are paying alot of money to make sure people don't know how much sugar they are taking in. wacky1980
This means one serving of the product has 7 grams of added sugars and 8 grams of naturally occurring sugars – for a total of 15 grams of sugar. The 7g of added sugars represents 14% of the Daily Value for added sugars. - fda.gov
bnmjy
You mean like this? There is 25 grams of sugar total here. The 23 grams of sugar were added by the manufacturer, meaning the product here only naturally has 2 grams of sugar. So in your example, I think there's 2 grams total. I believe the rule is to avoid 50 grams of added sugars per day. Things like fruit are high in sugar, but they are natural sugars and don't count, unless your diet restricts it. It's about the glycemic load.
