PokeNirvash
Another voice actor on the Japanese side has recently shed their mortal coil. Not as a result of COVID-19, but of cancer. And even more unfortunately, the seiyuu I speak of today is Keiji Fujiwara, a prolific and recognizable seiyuu who has appeared in many anime, at least one of which all of you have watched. Here's a rundown of all his [as]/Toonami roles, since this is what this board is best known for: That tattooed weapons shop owner from episode 2 (Cowboy Bebop) Maes Hughes (FMA 2003 & Brotherhood) Shunsuke Makabe (Paranoia Agent; yakuza dealer from Hirukawa's episode) Rod (GITS:SAC 2nd Gig; one of the army guys from Saito's backstory) Holland Novak (Eureka seveN; he also played aged-up Renton in AO and Dewey in the second Hi-Evolution movie) Hiro Nohara (Shin Chan) Isaac Fernand von Kampfer (Trinity Blood) Nathan Mahler (BLOOD+) Shuichi Aizawa (Death Note) Karna Yonsa (Moribito; Balsa's father, IIRC) Kinnosuke Kuzuhara (Durarara!!) Raiga Kurosuke (Naruto; main villain from the Curry of Life arc) Yamma (IGPX) Shiro Fujimoto and Satan (Blue Exorcist) Hannes (Attack on Titan season 1) Lucio Damao (Michiko & Hatchin; circus announcer in eps 9 and 11) Leorio Paradiknight (Hunter x Hunter) Esidisi (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) Biker Ghost (Mob Psycho 100) Byakuya Ishigami (Dr. Stone) Other prominent roles in popular anime include Ladd Russo (Baccano!), Zenzo Hattori (Gintama), Ali al-Saachez (Gundam 00), Eugen (Granblue Fantasy), Shingo Shouji (Initial D), Tatsuya Kimura (Hajime no Ippo), Village Chief (Arakawa Under the Bridge), Keisei Tagami (Corpse Princess), and the narrator of Sgt. Frog. He also voiced Axel in the Kingdom Hearts games, and Iron Man in the Japanese MCU dubs (plus the Iron Man anime and Rise of Technovore OVA). It truly is a terrible day for rain. 2
Chapinator_X
This was really depressing news. He was an absolute powerhouse between the early 90’s and now. He was a dude that could be convincing in roles as both the sweetest role model and the most heinous sociopath. The only guy from his time I could say comes close to this is probably Takehito Koyasu. Was hoping that it wasn’t COVID but cancer’s even worse. 55 is far too young to go out too. It’s just all around horrible. QueenoftheDorks
This is just a depressing blow. I actually didn't know about his break a few years ago because I was out of the loop. I knew he wasn't in much for a while, but I assumed it was just a natural cycle thing. I was honestly taken aback by the news.
