PhilosipherStoned
I live right by the duck pond so I just moistened it down with some water, put it in a box, and drove it back home. We've had alot of rain so he probably rode the waves all the way to my street. I set it down on on a nice little stone where another turtle had been sun bathing before I walked up to it. Then I watched it poke it's head out and quickly jump and dive for home sweet home like the other turtle did. That was the highlight of my day.
PhilosipherStoned
Damn I forgot I bought a kiddie pool for my dogs I could've put him in there and got some good pics. It's carapice didn't have any markings on it, Just smooth and more or less brown, but it looked weathered, and a bit dry. The plastron was yellow with some black splotches.. I still havent been able to identify what species or subscepies it was and it's bugging me.. At any rate it looked and acted just like the turtle I saw before I let it go did when it saw I was still there. They have some mad diving skills and can just plop into the water and dive even from a high ledge if they're spooked. I did get some good pics of it's carapice, and a timid mugshot of it's face, but it didn't have any stripes or notable features.. I'm guessing it has to be a box turtle or some kind of pond turtle.. I hate not being able to identify a reptile. Edited May 1, 2019 by PhilosipherStoned

PhilosipherStoned
I mean I hope it was diving and not just trying to run from me.. but I sat it down on a rock by the edge of the pond and when it came out of it's shell it only looked around for a fraction of a sec, and jumped into the water so I'm pretty sure it's the same type of turtle that lives in the pond. katt_goddess
Probably a common box turtle since a slider would have had red somewhere, even if just tiny. If it took to the water, it's a happy turtle no matter what.
PhilosipherStoned
Could be a river cooter.. and there's a bunch of different subspecies.. Same with box turtles. Also I didn't see a hinge on the plastron as notable as it usually is with box turtles, but I've seen some carapice pics of river cooters with the same kind of honey comb quadrants..At any rate I'm pretty sure it's the same type of turtle I see chilling on the edges of the drainage pipes of the playa. There's even a little man made buoy looking thing in the middle that'll have like 5 or 10 of them on it sun bathing. There's alot of turtles in there with no bright colored stripes or anything so it's hard to be sure.
