tsar4 Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 I would have body slammed the @(%*# ref. Major lawsuit to come, the ref should never be allowed near kids again, especially since he used a racial slur in his past & went through "sensitivity training". https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2018/12/21/referee-high-school-wrestler-cut-your-dreadlocks-or-forfeit/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.7124eac08adf 2
discolé monade Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 well, this is a tough one. there are certain rules for hair. i know that if hair is past a certain length, there is supposed to be a regulation holder/hair net/cap that has to be worn, that being said, the coach should have known this, although it takes years to grow out dreads. YEARS, so i would say this ref. just had an actual problem with the kid? or ref's in the past were to scared to approach this, because of this reason. now, i know that my parental unit wouldn't allow his guys to grow their hair out past a certain point, for a few reasons. first and foremost because of safety. then of course the parental unit was in the mindset of strict disciplined wrestlers, and long hair didn't convey that. and kudo's for the kid taking the point in OT. i bet it was a very excitine match. damn i miss wrestling.
tsar4 Posted December 22, 2018 Author Posted December 22, 2018 When they "teased" it on the news, I expected long dreads & I could understand there could be a concern of it getting in his or his opponent's eyes. But the dreads weren't long. The news brought up that if the kid was going to wrestle with a covering over his head, he had to wear it at the weigh-in, and he did not. Still, to demand that he cut his hair or forfeit is just wrong. I would think they could have huddled with the coaches before going to such an extreme. The Ref's past history makes the whole thing questionable. He should never be able to be in such a position involving kids again. 2
