NaBarney
I grew up near one it was cool. Wasn't until way later that I realized they're almost extinct for some reason, even tho it's way better than a dark theater imo way more relaxed Do they still make you use those terrible yard speakers or tune in to a certain radio station, or can you just get the audio on your phone somehow now

There are a few in this area but none super close. It was a cool experience. No yard speakers you just had to tune to a certain radio station. And I was the same way growing up I thought everyone had them. Mine had double features just like back in the day. One day I want to own one. Wasn't until way later that I realized they're almost extinct for some reason The reason is that pretty much all of them were built on the very fringe of their towns. As the towns got bigger, the property values grew & the land became worth more than they could ever make showing movies. "American Pickers" had one that they went to in central Illinois, Gibson City, I think. Some family was restoring it. Top Gun
There was one relatively near here that shut down like 20 years ago. I have vague memories of my parents taking us there once or twice to see classic Disney movies being run.
