Hornshire Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo.
Bouvre Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo. From what I understand theoretically, this sentence can run on without truly ever ending.
JeNewBee Posted August 6, 2017 Author Posted August 6, 2017 From what I understand theoretically, this sentence can run on without truly ever ending. Is this true?
Hornshire Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Is this true? Technically, no. That particular sentence can only exist as it is written, which clearly has an end. Otherwise it becomes a different sentence. Furthermore, in order for a string of words to be a sentence, and not just remain a string of words, it by definition requires an end. Pedantics aside, the essence of what he means is correct. There is no upper bound on the size of a sentence constructed in that fashion; i.e. however big you make it, you can always make another one that is bigger and still grammatically correct. Full disclosure: Our original example is not grammatically correct, because We did in fact forget a buffalo.
JeNewBee Posted August 6, 2017 Author Posted August 6, 2017 How could you forget a buffalo? Those things are huge!
