  1. I always thought you turned heel on One Piece because of Moose, since you used to be one of its biggest fans and defenders. So I'm not really sure why you did such a 180 on it, or why you're still making fun of it now.
  2. I don't think that would have happened even if One Piece was localized well when it first came here. But I recently saw... I think was either Twitter posts or Youtube videos or something, where the dub for One Piece was being picked back up. Apparently the dub had been stopped for years and hadn't gotten far into the time skip. So even if I had kept watching where I left off, I wouldn't have had much more dubbed episodes to watch. I had always assumed they were right on top of it. They had plenty of time to catch up on the old episodes and I would figure were even giving it the simuldub treatment at this point. So it's is really odd that the dub was just stopped for years, if it was one of Funimation's biggest most marquee shows. That doesn't speak well to One Piece's success in the U.S. And then Funimation started posting spoiler clips of One Piece, which pissed me the hell off, so I had to unsubscribe to their Youtube channel. They spoiled a character's appearance and Devil Fruit Power.
  3. If it was just about money I would think they'd just replace Waki. I am surprised they were as nice to him as they were, given the bad reputation Japan has for treating employees. So they must really care about him and not wanting him to not get even worse by firing him, and/or his position isn't so easy to fill, as far as his talent and style and expertise.
  4. Yeah, those really should have been longer. Not saying we needed a huge arc of them fighting Hibana's company, but they roflstomp through them and then Hibana has an epiphany after ONE PUNCH hahaha. We were barely introduced to Rekka's company when he goes crazy and turns on Tamaki and starts trying to kill kids. Then the whole thing of his relationship with Tamaki was shown after the fact. Not great. But yes, since then it has been a lot better and better balance, like you said. The only kind of silly thing recently, was making up the Nether concept in the same episode as showing a flashback why Shinra knows about it, and then saying that's where the White Clad base is. It is said that White Clad base is found off-screen by Licht with "clues and evidence," which was kind of ehh, but we know he has been doing mysterious things behind the scenes with Joker, and we don't know what their true motives and allegiances are, so it's likely they knew where the base was a while ago and Licht just said that. Last episode was pretty great, in any case.
  5. As I said, they edited the OPs and EDs too. I saw in a post from Sketchor that he said ASA gave more time to them than Toonami does, but I really can't remember that well. I know for InuYasha they only played the ED, I think in full, and didn't play the OP at all. So I didn't even hear the OPs until someone from the old boards sent me some CDs of them. Not sure how much later it was I saw the actual visuals. But Youtube either didn't exist or would've been in its infancy then. I certainly don't remember any easy ways to hear/see themes if you didn't buy the shows on home video back then. Maybe fan sites. A lot of those were just midi versions though. Maybe because of the bandwidth back then? Something else I just remembered. You could see it as the years wore on, shows that had their full OPs and EDs played at first, or at least longer cuts, got cut down more and more over the years, fast-forwarded, etc. I remember this with Bebop and Big O. And that was before Toonami ever came around. The point is, ASA had no Tom or Sara or anything, but they still edited stuff. The reason given was always commercials. So for Demarco to claim it's because of the Toonami packaging doesn't make sense. Maybe it is true that Toonami cuts more than ASA does, but it doesn't seem that different to me. But I'm sure someone out there has done a thorough examination.
  6. Are you talking about "TV size?" No one ever claimed the songs that play during the OP are the full song. That's also a way to sell CDs and MP3s, etc. And it doesn't make sense to devote 2-4 minutes to a song anyway. Also seems that Japanese songs are longer in general. Not sure what's up with that. As I mentioned before some songs never got to play through full the first time. Some of the songs also have crappy edits. Toonami are supposed to be the editing masters, so you think they could do better. And if they aren't doing it, and if Demarco cares so much about quality as he claims, he should request that the licensors deliver better edits of the songs. The Black Clover one doesn't even get to the actual song and is just the build. That's just pure stupidity that they would edit it like that, whoever is responsible. The skipping thing is annoying. There doesn't seem to be a way to make that box not appear on Disney Plus, either. We're talking about it because countfrylock made a thread... so naturally everyone else is going to come in and bitch about it too.
  7. I think that hasn't happened a few times. And the Shippuden OPs only get played the one time, but nobody cares about that. The Naruto themes are mostly bad anyway. Maybe not that they are computer illiterate, but they wouldn't know what to look up, since the band and song name don't always get labeled onscreen, and they may not know which OP it was, so just typing in the show name and OP followed by a number may not get them what they are looking for, and they could also end up with spoilers if they happen upon an OP from later in the show with the visuals for whatever later arc. Really it is risky business when it comes to Youtubing or Googling any particular anime in general when it comes to spoilers. That's why I don't really watch any anime reviewers or anime video content because they are full of spoilers and usually no warnings given either, because they'll casually make a comparison to some random show, or they have to do those stupid lists for a bunch of shows and a few of them you wouldn't have seen. Also a risk for looking up the porn too lol. They also may have crappy internet. Or they might not decide to look up the OPs and EDs in the first place.
  8. I can see that I guess, I just rather it was something new. Even if it were to throw them a bone, it could have been a lower end property from Aniplex instead of a rerun. It's not leading into Promised Neverland Season 2, so that's not it. I suppose it can just be a buy for time until they possibly replace it with something new, but it still just seems like a waste to me. I don't get the feeling they will cut it off early arbitrarily either.
  9. How do you know that? And what do you mean air another show between cours?
  10. The edit to the Black Clover OP is the worst. They just play the build and never get to the actual song. It would have made much more sense to cut the build and just go straight to the song itself.
  11. Hmm. I don't remember how Mine spoke that well. I thought her voice was higher pitched than Alice. Oh, of course haha.
  12. Is it really? I thought it was because we didn't have time to dedicate so much screen time to seeing all these competitors' dishes being made. So we just see them take them to the judges and explain what they did.
  13. I am warming up the show and some of the characters as it has been on. Who knows, maybe it is even an intentional light intermission between the heavier stuff around it, on DeMarco's part.
  14. I can't remember if it was on Ask.fm or twitter Twitter and don't have the link handy, but DeMarco claimed that they have to edit the OPs and EDs to fit in the Toonami packaging, and I asked him why ASA did the same thing when they had no Toonami packaging and he said something along the lines of he doesn't know but that is why Toonami edits the OPs and Ed's and this is how we do things blah blah blah. Sounds like bullshit to me, though. But what about the casuals that don't go on YouTube? They'll never hear the full song.
  15. I could have sworn it was Sonny Strait. If there has been no indication from Toonami, Strait, or anyone else that it is, that is odd. But a good impression of Strait's Tom by Steve Blum, if that was the intention. But I don't know why they wouldn't just get Sonny Strait back.
  16. DeMarco also tried to get Sailor Moon Crystal but Hulu had it locked up.
  17. So Lupin is just being replaced with a rerun? You have failed us again, DeMarco! But at least it's a rerun of something good. And I see that Promised Neverland season 2 is indeed coming, but not any time soon, so I'm not sure what the logic is here. I guess they are rerunning it for the hell of it. I don't get the point of switching Dr. Stone and One-Punch Man. It is a damn shame they did not use this chance to move up Demon Slayer. It doesn't deserve to be on so late and sure as hell Food Wars should not be given priority over it. While I have warmed up to Food Wars and taken a liking to some of the characters, especially Megumi, I will not be heartbroken if it leaves, and while the characters and relationships in Boruto are better done than in Naruto, I will not be despondent if that never comes back either. I actually thought we already went to season 2 of Food Wars when the OP and ED changed and a new arc started, but apparently the first season wasn't just 13 episodes like I thought. I really hope that Demarco isn't thinking premiering the newer seasons of Food Wars is some killer get. I saw that some people were mad that Boruto didn't come back to replace Lupin which is pretty fuckin funny. They actually believed DeMarco when he said "I'm sure it will be back at some point." Because that sounded real promising lmao. Anyway, I hope that they have some good picks coming, since we just lost a premiere...
  18. Don't pay too much attention to the critics. I was kind of bummed when I saw the reviews myself, but I ended up quite enjoying it. I've never taken what critics say as the be-all end-all. Though if it is a reviewer I follow and trust and share some tastes, that is one thing, or a friend who shares similar tastes and/or knows my tastes. It will never boil over. Ever since 1999 it has been CIVIL WAR, WITHOUT END! Though I do wish the people who don't like the current content would just move on instead of bitching endlessly. Whenever I saw a movie or show I didn't like I would generally forget about it and move on. I never felt the need to complain daily about it for YEARS like people did with The Last Jedi.
  19. It is fine for Okubo to tell a completely different kind of story with Fire Force than he did with Soul Eater, with a different tone and art style, atmosphere etc. I don't think creatives should be put in a box to just make one kind of story. That said, the writing should at least be good. But for whatever it's worth, after a good introduction, but some stumbles with the rushed clumsiness of the Hibana and Rekka arcs, ever since the arc where Benimaru and his company were introduced the writing has been pretty solid. Hopefully it can continue that trend of quality. Black Clover is way better than a lot of people will give it credit for and has only gotten better over its run. It's also arguably better executed that a lot of the shows that inspire it.
  20. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/daily-briefs/2019-12-28/sword-art-online-alicization-war-of-underworld-anime-last-season-confirmed-for-april/.154870 https://comicbook.com/anime/amp/2019/12/24/sword-art-online-alicization-season-3-war-of-underworld-return-2/ https://www.anime-recorder.com/program/130692/ According to posts in that Reddit thread they are having production difficulties, and the Director of Photography/Compositing Director Kentaro Waki was having issues with depression. INB4 he's depressed because he's working on SAO LOLOLO! I found the tweets they were talking about. It seems like he took on too much work and was getting burned out, and felt he wasn't getting enough social recognition for his work. Also, his parents seem like assholes. But it looks like he started feeling better after the outpouring of messages of support and the birthday wishes. Hopefully Mr. Waki will feel better going forward and whatever difficulties the studio is having can be helped by the delay. I also read that things that appear later in the arc will be difficult to animate so that could be part of it too. Here is an interview with him from back in January discussing the sort of work his job entails. It is interesting. Seems like the guy has an attention to detail and wants things to be high quality but not over-produced. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interview/2019-01-09/sword-art-online-alicization-director-of-photography-kentaro-waki/.140449 I'm not sure how this delay will affect a potential Toonami airing, if DeMarco will want to get the first 12 episodes as soon as they are available and he can work them in, or just wait til all the rest are out and then get them.
  21. Ep 12 - So they are just logged in as generic dark knight accounts, and they're attacking the Dark Territory army too?! Just ripped his own eyeball out. Dude is hardcore. Put Alice to sleep with that spell, but she didn't drop her sword. Ok then. That expression from Miller, wtf lol. So, an alliance with the pugilists. I had a feeling that might happen. And it's obvious Miller never cared about the Dark Territory Army in the first place, but he gives even less of a shit now that he's captured Alice. Asuna healed that arm pretty easily. Must be the goddess powers. Vassago Casal? Why does his REAL name sound like an RPG name? So I guess the VRMMO player army raised Lisbeth have not arrived yet. But Sinon will be a big help! Again, Shino-non, whatever that means.
  22. Ep 11 - So I was wrong about that leading into a recap. Sleeping near four beauties? I don't know if that sounds like something Alice would actually say. I would think building a bridge would be much safer and more effective. But it is a bottomless pit, so it might be tricky and take some time. But stringing ropes across is not a good idea either. Of course, Miller doesn't care about casualties. Are the dragons all tuckered out? I feel like someone just flying across with a dragon and cutting all the ropes in one go would be most efficient. Reset the Underworld to real time, and have a bunch of American players log in unknowingly on behalf of the Dark Territory. Not a bad plan. How is possible to log in to the world with conventional VR equipment though? I thought it had to he that STL thingy. Ooh this is a lot of Engrish lol. That fat guy LOL. And how did a layabout fatass that plays videogames all day get a hot blonde girlfriend? Anyway, gamer stereotypes lul. Why was Shino sleeping on the floor? Why did Yui send Shino and Suguha ahead separately? I guess to send the message to Kikuoka to check on the speed of time in the Underworld. And maybe Yui thought it would be safer to not send one of them alone to do that. They're mere high school girls! Why the hell was Higa not watching things more closely? I swear if he and Kikuoka weren't so incompetent so much of this wouldn't have happened. I think your big mistake here was having Lisbeth give the speech... Lol they have an inferiority complex over the SAO survivors. So VRMMOs have a stigma due to SAO. We already knew about the SAO survivors going to a special school. Makes sense counseling would be required but forcing meds isn't cool. And they are on a potential criminal watch list? Because of the murder guild players I guess? But those were a small minority of players. I also wonder if those players were able to be tried for murder for killing players in the game. Hahaha people think that VRMMO players don't contribute to society or pay taxes and social security! Well, at least Shino makes money playing GGO. Who is the person with the fairy? Looks like the rest of Yuuki's party all survived? Were cures found for their conditions or are they all still slowly dying? I recall from that arc's ending that at least one of them was cured. Yup real pain and no way to log out. But at least you don't die in real life you die in the game! I bet Miller did not have Critter tell the American players that though. Okay it's 5:30am in Japan and between noon and 3:30pm in the U.S. But what day of the week is it? Do none of those American players have jobs? Lisbeth was able to turn the speech around... but I still don't think she was the best candidate to give it!
  23. I saw a lot of critics were not high on this movie. They said it had too much fan service and fan pandering, over-stuffed and rushed. I didn't feel that the fan service was overdone. It felt like it made sense and fit in and didn't detract from anything. The movie's pacing didn't feel rushed to me or like it was "over-stuffed." I read people saying that it's nonstop action, but there are definitely quiet moments. I will say this. A lot of things that don't sound good on paper come off better in the way they are executed in the movie. There were also a few things that happened and directions it took that I wasn't really a big fan of the idea of before the movie came out. Talking about all the different theories and possibilities for direction of things. So, I was a bit dismayed when I saw the critical reaction to the movie. But, I ended up loving the movie myself. It felt like a dream almost, it was a quite a ride. I had a lot of fun and there were some very emotional moments, and some very fitting send offs for various characters. Lots of emotional moments in the movie. I think the storyline was wrapped up satisfactorily enough. Sure, there could have been more callbacks and references and stuff, but with some people saying there were too much already, I think it was fine. It didn't feel over-stuffed to me, in any case. If I wanted a bit more, it was probably a good balance. Spoiler rambling, in no particular order - Anyway, that's all I can think of for now. I got on a tangent, but there was a lot of stuff to talk about with this movie. It felt like a dream at times, it was definitely a ride. Maybe I will like it more, or like it less, with time and repeated viewings, but for now, I'm mostly pretty happy with it, and I'm glad, because I was worried by those reviews.
  24. I thought the whole point of Toonami was having DeMarco, Gill, and the other Toonami gurus picking out the shows and scheduling things. Granted, they don't have absolute power, but they have a lot of input. If DeMarco truly had "no control," this would just be ASA with a Toonami coat of paint. A block that much fewer premieres, even lesser quality of show picks in many cases, little to no promotion or advertising for the shows, and even more baffling scheduling decisions. We called them "schedule monkies" back then, for a reason. There is a marked difference between Toonami now and ASA before. The Toonami crew a definitely a big part of that. On the other hand, I have noticed that whenever viewers like something, DeMarco will take the credit, but if something pisses them off, he will say something like "wasn't my call," "out of my hands," "not in my control," was this other department's fault, or the licensors, etc. So he is a bit full of it. Granted, he probably can't singlehandedly get Adult Swim to change its ways with regard to antiquated scheduling and ratings stuff, but it's not that he has "no control." He's in a powerful position at not just Toonami, but Adult Swim overall. The funny thing is, Adult Swim is, or was, usually regarded as progressive and forward thinking in how they do things, or at least not caring about doing things the way other networks would. But I fear they, and other traditional networks, hold onto these antiquated ways at their own peril.
  25. Weekly grind? Toonami is one of the highlights of my week and I greatly look forward to watching and discussing the shows live! Maybe you should cut some crap from your weekly viewing, like Food Wars and Shippuden. Of course, the madman DeMarco put Food Wars in a buzzkilling, momentum derailing position right in the middle of the block, when it has no business being on before Demon Slayer, and should be after Black Clover at the earliest! So that wouldn't save you any time to skip Food Wars during the live airing. But if you watch via DVR it is no issue. Of course, if you're a completionist like me, this isn't such a viable option. But when watching live I typically feel like the night flies by honestly. On the other hand, watching stuff recorded later on feels like it takes longer? It's odd.
