bleach Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Discussion
ben0119 replied to ben0119's topic in Anime & Manga
Ep 7 - Nice flashback to Shunsui as a kid and Yamamoto. This has to be one of the most ancient scenes of the Soul Society. When Kubo randomly revealed the original 13 captains in that color spread the other day, I didn't expect to see them in this episode in that epic sequence! It's in black and white, but still! They really were some violent, brutal fuckers! That music is friggin epic, by the way. And this anime is violent as hell. We had one of the original captains smash the heads of two Soul Reapers together, and in the present day, a Soul Reaper was beheaded by a Wandenreich foot soldier. The idea of this show being on Disney + in international markets is HILARIOUS. Damn, Yamamoto cut in half, but still able to move after that. Then Bach just blows him away. Haha, Bach thinks the Soul Reapers have gone soft since they aren't psychos anymore! LOL Shaz Domino wasted just as fast as I'm the manga. I forgot that Ichigo fought Bach here. But I think the battle might be a bit extended? It is badass, either way! And there goes Ichigo's sword. "My son... born in the darkness." Oh shit. Wow did not expect this new epic ending animation featuring Yamamoto and the original captains. A little bit of the current captains too. Ep 8 - I think this hospital scene might be new? Not sure. You didn't find Yamamoto's body because they're was nothing to find. Bach blew him up! Kon! He was with Mayuri this whole time? When Bankai are broken it's permanent. *SIGH* It had been theorized that Byakuya and Kenpachi were originally supposed to die, or Byakuya at least, until fan backlash undid it. But I'm not sure if his "death" and later reveal of his survival was far enough apart for fans to have an affect. I gotta' say I had never expected the Squad 0 to be like this. Such wacky characters! But I guess not everyone can be "cool badasses." Soifon is pissed, but man, beat by Kirinji in speed! And he taught Unohana her healing abilities. Wow. Squad 0 are stronger than all of the Thirteen Court Guard Squads combined... The Quincies that attacked are more evil than Aizen, Senjumaru? That's debatable. So, you can get super-healed by this guy's hot springs. OK then. Man, I hope the shot of Rukia's ass floating in the hot spring wasn't cut! I watched Mr Tommo's anime vs manga comparison video. Turns out the Rukia peach scene was cut. I understand Kubo's stance with cutting comedy, given the tone of the arc and it coming off differently in anime vs manga, but some of this stuff is too good to cut! But you know, I wish the tonal whiplash comedy of FMA: Brotherhood had been given this same treatment. Anyway, it is cool to finally see all these characters animated. Post credits... the Soul King! -

mha MHA Marathon announced for November 26th
ben0119 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
The whole point of getting rid of the ACTN programmers was to get some competent programmers in the form of the Toonami crew. That hasn't been the case for the last few years though. They should promote it, so people wouldn't think new stuff is coming on and know not to watch it. Ugh. But Demarco and co. know well ahead of time when shows will be finished airing. Demarco even said we wouldn't have a repeat of what happened last year with not having shows lined up. Yet they got caught with their pants down again. So unprofessional and incompetent.- 36 replies

There's seriously a garbage marathon tonight? I didn't even see that announced. I was looking forward to the shows tonight. And wasn't it already determined ratings aren't lower on Thanksgiving weekend?- 36 replies

The Doubled Up One Piece Situation
ben0119 replied to CountFrylock's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I hope there weren't any nefarious reasons for it (it is pretty sus they low-key dropped an episode during daylight savings time switch though,) but it is true that each episode costs money. Showing one less episode would save money. But I don't know if that's just because Toonami needed to save the cash, or Asslav stepped in. Would he even care what's going on with Toonami? Why are Sony being such hard asses anyway? I know Demarco bitching about the situation didn't help, but how did it get that way in the first place? It's not like Toonami is a threat to them. I remember when we were told nothing would change when Sony bought Funimation. That obviously wasn't true, since Funimation used to be one of their best partners. Of course, Crunchyroll never wanted to cooperate even before Sony bought them. The One Piece dub isn't on Crunchyroll? Man, they still haven't gotten their shit together? So the dub is on Funimation Now? I take it there's still some other stuff only on Funimation Now that never got added to Crunchyroll? They'll pry that Funimation Now subscription from my cold dead hands, by the way. I also checked and saw the FAQ is completely the same... there's still no way to carry over qeue and watch history from Funimation Now to Crunchyroll, and I doubt that will ever get done, regardless of them claiming otherwise. -
I guess it doesn't matter now, since Fena and Shenmue both got canceled by Asslav. 😧 Oh, I am definitely happy that Richard Epcar is playing Bach. You sure about that? I just checked and it definitely was. Maybe it was uploaded late? Either way, the cast listing couldn't have been updated if the episode wasn't posted.

Well, another dubbed episode dropped, and we have more cast updates. It looks like most have returned to their roles, but unfortunately Ryuken Ishida of all characters was recast. He was originally played by Michael McConnohie, now played Christopher Swindle. Michael McConnohie was still doing voice acting as recently as last year, if Behind The Voice Actors is accurate, but it looks like he was only reprising a single character for the past three years, so maybe he is semi-retired. I didn't realize he also played Tracks (one of my favorites) and Cosmos on the original Transformers cartoon. Or rather, didn't put it together that he was the same Michael McConnohie who did anime roles years later. He attended a Transformers convention in August, so he is still active to some extent. Christopher Swindle also played some Transformers in more recent years, coincidentally enough, and Swindle is the name of a pretty infamous Decepticon, but he never played any version of Swindle. I hope he did a good job as Ryuken. I am considering watching further dubbed episodes, if it looks like there is no sign of Toonami getting Thousand Year Blood War any time soon. But I might confuse myself, watching and re-watching episodes of the same arc so close together, haha.

Yes, it is a bit character Wendee Lee played, but she's in the door now, so... It was actually pretty out of character for me to watch the sub of Bleach back when I did it. I had introduced someone to the series, and we were binging it together. We got to the point where Adult Swim had left off, and she wanted to keep going, so I gave in watched ahead with her. It eventually got to the point where we were reading the manga haha. And the place of the hiatus was pretty miserable too. Not only was AS out of new episodes, but when it came back, it would be filler. x_x We skipped the filler in our binge, I think. Episode 167... I rue this number. It's the episode number where the original InuYasha series cut off without conclusion, and where AS had a hiatus with Bleach, which ended with a return of filler. 🤣 And 167 is the octal form of 119, my birthday. Octal is some kind of weird numerical system apparently. Creepy! And who knew individual numbers had wiki pages! But yeah, so that's how that happened. And ever since then, I usually won't watch a series subbed unless to re-watch it that way if I really like it, or it's a continuing series I really like, and I don't want to wait to see what happens next. In that case, I'd re-watch it dubbed regardless. Although, I recently found a couple series I was interested in that have no dubs to speak of, so not much of an option there. Arpeggio of Blue Steel and Rail Wars. I already watched Arpeggio. It's strange because I figured any shows of at least the past 15-20 years would all have dubs. Yeah, that is probably the case. I also figure some of these actors didn't feel like returning to these roles, or couldn't be found, or retired, etc.

Well I have heard that Re:Zero was pretty tough to get through on a weekly basis even when it first premiered in Japanese, and fans of the source material had to keep encouraging people to watch it. This was also a reason some gave why it wouldn't be a good fit for Toonami. But I can't say, since I haven't seen it. I looked it up and apparently Scissor Seven is a Chinese animated series. I didn't know they made any. So it's actually good?

bleach Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Discussion

Ep 6 - There's not much I can say to add to this episode. The animation was friggin insane. A really epic battle between Yamamoto and Bach. By the way, it is definitely Juha Bach as spoken, regardless of what is written. Seeing all of Yamamoto's Bankai abilities in animation was just stunning. And I loved the flashes back and forth from the battle going on now to the one from a thousand years ago. Unfortunately, Yamamoto wasn't really fighting Bach, but a phony, but at least the fight was still cool. I'm not sure what the point of Bach visiting Aizen in prison was, since their conversation really went nowhere. I guess it is just to show that Aizen is still around and "in play." Interesting that Bach said Aizen could be killed, but it would take too long. The added scenes of Uyru reading the book about the Quincy history were pretty good. Bach creating that giant arrow above him which fired a giant arrow, which became his sword, was so badass. It was great to see it in animation. -
Yeah a whole bunch of stuff happened in their past. Setsuna stayed in the feudal era and lived with the Demon Slayers, and Towa lived in present day with Sota's family. Well 18 is still a teenager, and I suppose a lot of people can look young for their age, and this can be especially true of Asian people, but Rin still looks too young to me for how old she supposedly is. That happened after in this series, well, the back story for this series anyway. So in the chronology it would be between, but it was shown in Yashahime. It took a long time for the full story of what happened to Rin and her daughters to be revealed. I guess this show is more elaborate than I thought, haha. Yeah, I think you will enjoy the first season, if you like InuYasha!
