Dude there were characters like that in S1. Remember that group I think Eren was training/hiding with and how obvious it was they were all gonna die? I never got why people said that NO ONE IS SAFE in this show when there's a pretty obvious group of characters that are safe and obvious cannon fodder.

Well we know there's some shenanigans going on behind the scenes and that not everything is what it seems. Even still, it feels like the show just went off on a whole other tangent.
