Trunks Thread 19.1: A New New Frontier
PokeNirvash replied to PokeNirvash's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
ATTACK ON TITAN - I don't exactly know what a "Petard" is, but Zachary was certainly hoist by his own, even if it was through it being rigged with explosives and killing him. Wasn't expecting him to get offed this early, so it's nice to see I'm still unspoiled about some things in Titan. FOOD WARS - Erina's dad may be a total dickbag, but goddamn Ian Sinclair's delivery of his lines is just perfect, especially in a dub of inferior technical quality to FUNi's regular output. It may take a while, if at all, before Erina's really "likable", but it's nice to see people got her back in these dark times she's going through. Also, isn't it more than a little fishy that the Council of Ten passed a majority rule vote without input from all of the members, because Isshiki and Erina not knowing what went on seems a little convenient. FIRE FORCE - Maki's family is great, though the baby-talk is indeed an acquired taste. It's still weird seeing Tamaki in a nun outfit, but at least she didn't lose it this time. BLACK CLOVER - The one episode where Gauche isn't nosebleeding over his imouto, and it's the one where he and Gordon are mistaken for child predators. It was an awkward one. π GRIDMAN - That finale was awesome and everything and I would wholeheartedly rewatch it but holy shit reading up on its TV Tropes page made me realize I'm nowhere near otaku enough to appreciate it on all fronts. 9.9/10, Dynazenon wen Demarco? SHIPPUDEN - The moment I saw the orphanage Kabuto grew up in, I was all, "holy shit, that's the orphanage he's running for all those clones in Boruto!" It's nice to see he kept the glasses his nun-caretaker gave him, even after going off the deep end. -

Cosmo Samurai (rewatch) Another bit of direction analysis for Kunoichi. Though Tsuru's influence isn't as 100% here - no surprise, since he had an assistant director helping him out - there are still notable tics of his present, most notably his habit of using in medias res storytelling for quick establishment. The opening shot of the blank wall with the off-screen siren effect and TOM and SARA talking over it was a nice little touch, as was the visual introduction to the Cosmo Samurai crew being through a first-person perspective of TOM shutting down in space, then booting back up on their ship. I expect Tsuru to have at least some involvement in the Shenmue anime, since it's from Cosmo Samurai's studio and the director was an animation collaborator on many of his works.

ssss SSSS.Gridman Episode 12 "Awakening" Discussion
PokeNirvash replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Yep, both series aired at Midnight. And ironically, WOWOW's timeslot was Gridman's best. Tokyo MX and BS11 aired it at 1AM, while Mainichi Broadcasting aired it at 2:08 in the morning. So yeah, it kinda got gipped on Toonami, not that I care since I stopped caring about the ratings and DVR everything anyway.- 153 replies

ssss SSSS.Gridman Episode 12 "Awakening" Discussion
PokeNirvash replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Speaking of Gridman's timeslots, did you know that its premieres on WOWOW Prime shared the exact same time, day of the week and everything, as the first 12 episodes of SAO Alicization on Tokyo MX? [the more you know]- 153 replies

Not as raunchy as its predecessor, but somehow more likely to spark outrage while having none of the rape. Also coming soon are Basquash! and SK8 the Infinity, two series I won't be doing screencaps or clips for, but instead will be churning out plenty of ACTN block mock-ups to help get me back into that sorta deal.

Eh, I don't think Todd is in any danger of being persona non grata'd to the lengths that Vic has, even though the frequency of roles he's been scoring has significantly decreased since his own #MeToo moment. There might be one or two soundalikes for him that I've heard before, but I can't name them off the top of my head.

You say that like Toonami airing Stone Ocean isn't a good thing. -

2021 April Fool's Prank Discussion
PokeNirvash replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Like I said, the lay-offs affected them. Overall, I give it a 6/10. Neat concept and execution, especially the fact that they referenced [as] jr. in the past, but it being a 45-minute prank with a repeat run is more than a little lame, and despite that, I don't think I could take a whole night of it. Better luck next year. -
Promised Neverland Season 2 premieres on Toonami April 10th
PokeNirvash replied to 3ngag3's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I dunno, maybe? I mean, despite being credited as director all the way through Mamoru Kanbe had no hands-on involvement past storyboarding for episode 5, so him dropping out of the production, be it the result of handsy relatives or something macroscopically more plausible, wouldn't be out of the question behind how it wound up sucking so bad. -
2021 April Fool's Prank Discussion
PokeNirvash replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Probably won't be anything complex or irreverent, thanks to the lay-offs having resulted in much of the [as] staff losing their jobs there, but hopefully it's fun enough for me to feel at least a little bit satisfied. -
I was skipping my way through an old VHS tape from 2005 this [as] archivist I know on YouTube/Discord posted today, and wound up watching episode 6 of The Super Milk-Chan Show in its entirety. Not sure why I did that, but it was something. Truly the Pop Team Epic of its day.

Japan ramps up the remakes with a Tokyo Babylon TV anime
PokeNirvash replied to Jman's topic in Anime & Manga
When they say "restart", does this mean the Tokyo Babylon anime will be given to another studio, or that GoHands will use this opportunity to make Hand Shakers 3 instead? Maybe both? -
I promised you in that one thread I'd make one of these again, so here it is. A rundown of every anime aired by Adult Swim, Toonami, and Toonami Swim, ordered by weighted score on MyAnimeList. Reach the end and you'll see why I bothered with this. Red are shows that premiered on [as] first. Blue are shows that premiered on Toonami first, special one-time airings included. (Eva and Gigantor technically apply for this list, but I included them with [as] because fuck it.) Green are Toonami streaming exclusives. Orange are shows that aired on Cartoon Network first, plus Naruto movie 3 because Toonami would've aired this were they not cancelled before they got the chance. Purple are shows that premiered on Toonami's [as] iteration. #1: Attack on Titan: The Final Season β 9.19 #2: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood β 9.18 #3: Attack on Titan Season 3.5 β 9.11 #6: Hunter x Hunter 2011 β 9.09 #18: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 β 8.91 #23: Spirited Away β 8.82 #26: Cowboy Bebop β 8.78 #42: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion β 8.71 #43: Princess Mononoke β 8.71 #53: Gurren Lagann β 8.66 #58: The Promised Neverland β 8.64 #61: Death Note β 8.63 #63: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba β 8.61 #65: Attack on Titan Season 3 β 8.61 #68: JoJoβs Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind β 8.60 #80: One Punch Man β 8.56 #87: Ghost in the Shell: STAND ALONE COMPLEX 2nd Gig β 8.54 #91: One Piece β 8.53 #103: Samurai Champloo β 8.50 #104: JoJoβs Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable β 8.50 #108: Attack on Titan β 8.49 #112: Mob Psycho 100 β 8.48 #117: Attack on Titan Season 2 β 8.46 #128: Yu Yu Hakusho: Ghost Files β 8.45 #132: JoJoβs Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders Season 2 β 8.44 #134: Ghost in the Shell: STAND ALONE COMPLEX β 8.44 #153: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind β 8.40 #160: Cowboy Bebop: The Movie β 8.39 #161: Hellsing Ultimate β 8.39 #162: Parasyte: the maxim β 8.39 #190: Evangelion 2.22: You Can (Not) Advance β 8.34 #199: Shelter the Animation β 8.33 #201: Dr. Stone β 8.33 #212: Neon Genesis Evangelion β 8.32 #216: Rurouni Kenshin β 8.31 #220: My Hero Academia Season 2 β 8.31 #226: Castle in the Sky β 8.30 #240: Food Wars! β 8.28 #258: Space Dandy Season 2 β 8.26 #270: Trigun β 8.23 #274: My Hero Academia Season 3 β 8.23 #284: Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Season 2 β 8.23 #290: Inuyasha: The Final Act β 8.22 #314: Food Wars!
