  1. There's a book I read a while back called The Discovers that really opened my mind up about how loose of a concept time is. Not in the metaphysical sense but on a more practical level. Most people born in the 20th century just take the clock for granted but highly accurate time pieces didnt exist prior to the 1600's. We take for granted that time is moving in linear forward direction, but that only became a thing because man needed a method to coordinate cycles, labor, rituals. The calendar was/is literally based on astronomical cycles.
  2. Most people agree that BTTF is a perfect movie and a perfect time travel movie. There's no doubt TT is extremely hit or miss, with more miss than hit lately. Avengers comes to mind as just a complete cop out. Still, I think time as a concept can be used effectively to tell interesting stories. Memento and The Prestige come to mind as great examples of movies that don't involve literal time travel but use time as an interesting narrative device. Terminator, 12 Monkeys, Edge of Tomorrow, Looper are good examples of more literal TT movies that are excellent imo.
  3. Yeah, I mean Shinji might be the most frustrating MC in anime history. Definite a borderline masterpiece though.
  4. next time I hear someone complain about an injury or pain im gonna very dramatically ask "what matter of affliction has seized you"
  5. Steins Gate is highly is a very highly rated show. Doesn't mean much, but from what I understand they did time travel justice. I dunno, time travel is always at risk of coming off like mumbo jumbo
  6. Some little neighborhood fire brigade would have been there is 7 seconds. Japanese first responders dont play.
  7. I actually read a review that said exactly this. It seemed insufferable on the surface but was pretty engrossing.
  8. WOW. I think I bowed out after episode 1.
  9. I hope so. The SAC dub is legendary.
  10. ?? The GiTS manga came out 37 years ago.
  11. I somehow missed this announcement or maybe forgot about it, so apologies if it's old news. First impressions - it looks amazing. Can't imagine a better visual approach to a reboot. Much closer to the manga and no cheap looking 3D. The original series were stone-cold classics, but the visuals were very streamlined and polished. As a 90's anime fanboy, this is ideal.
