Yeah, subtle changes to the designs here, but mostly still the same, with the new artist and then S3 pushes it further and makes them look a little older with a good brand new studio (Studio VOLN, which is ex-Madhouse).

Yeah, a quick prep from them would have been cool. Correct, most of the battle happened, but no gate and as such Rin didn't break his sword against it. Pretty sure the trial has some slight differences too (I think they're touched on later, since it's mentioned in the trivia that in canon Rin was unconscious unlike in the first anime where Mephisto woke him up)
