Last one I'm covering... EPISODE 4 - "OVERDRIVE" In this episode, JoJo learns about Hamon and the Overdrive technique under the spartan tutelage of Baron Zeppeli! Plus, Erina makes her surprising return 7 years later, I guess now that Dio is out of the picture! It's rather surprising to JoJo that this frog doesn't croak! And fun fact--I believe this is the only episode of the English Dub that doesn't have the word "Useless" in it--no wait, Jack The Ripper Zombie did say it. Of course it's up to JoJo to finish off the Jack - Zombie, and he does so with flying colors, demonstrating his mastery of Hamon! Those episodes provide the background for the episode's main arc, Dio's return at nightfall, which begins Episode 5, streaming now, but of course also aptly begins the Christmas Eve marathon tomorrow night! LATER!

Yeah, I think 2014 was probably Toonami on Adult Swim's best year in terms of variety if not ratings, though 2015 was no slouch either despite being kneecapped tightly down to 12-3:30 only to escape for DST abnormalities, and has far outshined any other year so far in the ratings. Especially the first half of 2015 will probably go down in history as a "unique" year, what with Toonami having more female appeal than perhaps any time in its history between Kill la Kill, Sword Art Online, Michiko & Hatchin, and InuYasha: The Final Act, which all either had strong female leads or focused extensively on romance. But somehow now going into 2017 Toonami's managed to capture some of the same variety as 2014 with fewer shows: Want HOT, NEW? It doesn't get much hotter than DB Super's dub! Want vampires? Got 'em! (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) Want giant robots? Got 'em! (Gundam Unicorn) Want ninjas? Got 'em! (Naruto: Shippuden) Want pirates? Got 'em! (One Piece) Want movies? Well, it may still happen again in 2017, as last year's Miyazaki-esque Children Who Chase Lost Voices (Makoto Shinkai) showed up at the end of DST and felt like a late-year call-back to 2006's Month of Miyazaki. I would like to see them pop up at a time slot other than 3 AM and pre-empt portions of the normal lineup this time though. Eva 3.33 is of course the low-hanging fruit, and maybe Toonami would even be able to cut a deal with FUNimation to stream 1.11 (Monday-Wednesday) and 2.22 (Wednesday-Friday) again on their marathon channel so viewers wouldn't be hopelessly lost! And finally, the "strong female lead" is actually coming back right at the end of the block with Ghost In The Shell on February 4th!

Gundam Unicorn is definitely a UC series with big-budget OVA animation; hope you enjoy it. One Piece is just as worthy of being religiously followed as any of the other Toonami shows, though I will agree that since after Hunter x Hunter, Netflix viewing is possible, it does kinda serve to bring Shippuden and OP down an echelon. Finally, Deadman Wonderland was a great show for 11.5 episodes, up until its cheeseball non-ending. Too bad it didn't sell well enough in Japan to continue! But JoJo and Gundam IBO did better in the ratings at 12:30 than Deadman.

I figured out what Toonami is missing
OwlChemist81 replied to Zenigundam's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Well, at least ya still got vampires and Zombies in JoJo even beyond Phantom Blood, right? Gundam Unicorn gets really good fairly early! I've seen the first 4 OVAs (I believe that's Episodes 1-12 of the "Re:0096" TV edit), and it DOES get hardcore! Another neat thing about it is the OP and ED are actually both in English! (Just half-watched 13...) -
I take it you haven't seen any of Gundam Unicorn yet, then? It's about as "Gundam" as Gundam can be! There IS a reason Sketch once had it at #1 on his list of shows he'd want to see on Toonami!

I tell you what I will do this run-through: keep a "Useless!" count! Episode 1 - Dio The Invader: Dario calls this world "useless" in his last breath to Dio, and Dio says it regarding JoJo challenging him! Episode 2 - A Letter Through The Past: Dio says it once, when he's misled by the early effects of the mask. Episode 3 - Youth With Dio: Dio says it on the roof of the Joestar mansion! Episode 4 - Overdrive: Jack The Ripper Zombie says he's gonna cut off Team Jojo's "Useless" heads! Oh yeah, and of course Patrick Seitz totally nailed the "You thought it was JoJo, but it was I, DIO!" meme!

Naruto Shippuden Episode 139 Discussion
OwlChemist81 replied to StarPanda's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Don't forget that they actually ran Shippuden and OG Naruto concurrently for a while (until Hellsing Ultimate arrived) in 2014! -
I think one small problem with JoJo is that none of the Japanese "manga-esque" text is ever translated. It would be nice to know what those green letters said when Zeppeli punched Froggy... Might be having a discussion for Episodes 1-4 sometime over the next 24 hours or so as they air on TV, if anyone's up to it! I'm thinking tomorrow from 4-5:30 PM ET (the last time they air), but I'm open to suggestions!

Welp, here's the full 18-49s! 12:00 AM Dragon Ball Z Kai - 906,000 (82.95%) 12:30 AM Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 719,000 (79.36%) 1:00 AM Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 626,000 (87.07%) 1:30 AM Hunter × Hunter - 545,000 (87.06%) 2:00 AM Naruto: Shippuden - 503,000 (92.29%) 2:30 AM One Piece - 483,000 (96.02%) 3:00 AM One-Punch Man (rerun) - 517,000 (107.04%) ADULTS 18-49 AVERAGE - 614,143 That OPM number is truly amazing! It must have made the Top 100 for Sunday, but we're not gonna know anytime soon because stupid Screener has accidentally posted the grid from the week before last instead. Oh well; here are the final premiere averages for every show that aired in December 2016: SHOW AVERAGES SO FAR Dragonball Z Kai - 1,375,531 (98 episodes) Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - 1,001,600 (10 episodes) Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans - 940,760 (25 episodes) Hunter × Hunter - 901,875 (32 episodes) Naruto: Shippuden - 887,794 (140 episodes) One Piece - 801,455 (166 episodes) One Punch Man Rerun - 642,250 (8 episodes) ADULTS 18-49 Dragonball Z Kai - 792,155 (98 episodes) Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - 606,400 (10 episodes) Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans - 556,560 (25 episodes) Hunter × Hunter - 531,656 (32 episodes) Naruto: Shippuden - 490,440 (140 episodes) One Piece - 435,713 (166 episodes) One Punch Man Rerun - 387,625 (8 episodes) ADULTS 18-34 (Estimated) Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - 404,400 (10 episodes) Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans - 367,040 (25 episodes) Nice turn of events, with JoJo's averages cracking some ceilings it looked like it would fall short of as recently as last week, including 1M total viewers, 600K adults 18-49, and 400K adults 18-34! -

Wow, this lineup freaking SHOT THE MOON on Adults 18-49, as all slots but two were up at least a tenth of a point! Looks like nothing was under 475K 18-49 or 700K total viewers!! 12:00 AM Dragon Ball Z Kai - 1,405,000 (78.14%) 0.71 (+0.10) 12:30 AM Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 1,095,000 (77.94%) 0.56 (+0.16) 1:00 AM Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 937,000 (85.57%) 0.49 (+0.10) 1:30 AM Hunter × Hunter - 824,000 (87.94%) 0.43 (+0.06) 2:00 AM Naruto: Shippuden - 761,000 (92.35%) 0.39 (+0.07) 2:30 AM One Piece - 700,000 (91.98%) 0.38 (+0.11) 3:00 AM One-Punch Man (rerun) - 731,000 (104.43%) 0.40 (+0.14) TOTAL VIEWERS AVERAGE - 921,857 0.48 609,600 http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-12-17-2016.html This is just an estimate based on hundredths of points, but I'm pretty sure the over 600K part will stick. It's been almost 5 months since the block cracked 600K 18-49s on average!! Of course, the Total Viewers Average also did well in its own right, reaching a level not seen for almost 2 months! -

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/daily-ratings/saturday-cable-ratings-dec-17-2016/ Update: One Piece actually made the Top 100 for the first time in I don't know how long, plus DBZ Kai managed a rounded 0.7 as we say goodbye to the Kikuchi soundtrack, and hello to... Too bad Midnight is too late to head to the Colonel and grab a piece or two! But I digress... 12:00 AM Dragon Ball Z Kai - 1,405,000 (78.14%) 12:30 AM JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - 1,095,000 (77.94%) 1:00 AM JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - 937,000 (85.57%) 1:30 AM Hunter × Hunter - 824,000 (87.94%) 2:00 AM Naruto: Shippuden - 761,000 (92.35%) 2:30 AM One Piece - 700,000 (91.98%) Not the best retention in total viewers for DBZ Kai and either JoJo, but when Family Guy starts out at almost 1.8 Million, get over it! -
I wonder if it will be just the first season, or if it will roll right into 2nd Gig? That would theoretically lock down the 3 AM timeslot until 2018, unless it were to become the 3:30 AM timeslot! At any rate, get ready for Toonami's most "stable" year yet unless it somehow expands to a 2nd night, but save for 11 PM, there just doesn't seem to be much room for even the hottest shows such as Attack on Titan S2, FLCL, or Samurai Jack. I wonder how they're even going to handle the latter two, since those are a done deal, unlike AoTS2.

One thing before I get thankfully back on subject and away from this political bucket of fail: if you ask me, Trump won't benefit minorities, nor will he "declare war" on them; he's just "indifferent" to them. Maybe leaning toward dismissive but it won't be all-out war! Now getting back on the subject of JoJo, In case you hadn't seen, these two episodes did DAMN good in the ratings: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-12-17-2016.html 12/17/2016 JoJo's Bizarre Adv. (12:30) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.78 Estimated 18-34 - 530,000 Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.56 Estimated 18-49 - 711,000 Total Viewers - 1,095,000 12/17/2016 JoJo's Bizarre Adv. (1 AM) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.70 Estimated 18-34 - 476,000 Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.49 Estimated 18-49 - 622,000 Total Viewers - 937,000

Sorry, but this one's actually a PLEASURE to read for once: JoJoJoJo done GOOD!! http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-12-17-2016.html 12/17/2016 JoJo's Bizarre Adv. (12:30) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.78 Estimated 18-34 - 530,000 Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.56 Estimated 18-49 - 711,000 Total Viewers - 1,095,000 12/17/2016 JoJo's Bizarre Adv. (1 AM) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.70 Estimated 18-34 - 476,000 Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.49 Estimated 18-49 - 622,000 Total Viewers - 937,000 Episode 9 was indeed a record-breaker for this show, the first time it got over 500K 18-34s/700K 18-49s by a pretty wide margin! And Episode 10 didn't quite do AS good coming after it, but it still managed the 2nd highest 18-34 number to date! In fact, this week alone managed to pull JoJo's 2016 premieres out of the fire not only of being under a million total viewers on average, but of being under 400K adults 18-34 on average, as its final estimated average for 2016 premieres in that demographic (which shall remain an estimate) is 404,400. And its total viewers average for 2016 premieres will conclude at 1,001,600. This bodes well going into Battle Tendencies, Episode 11 and beyond, next year, as well I suppose for the marathon, but we may never actually see ratings from that. I'm more concerned with how well Scavengers does! And if last year is any indication, it looks like we WILL get to see: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-thursday-cable-originals-network-update-12-24-2015.html -
I tell you what, if you had given me a choice of which character would make it all the way from the first episode to the end of the 10th, I never would have picked Erina! Robert E.O. Speedwagon, of course was the 2nd runner-up, introduced in the 2nd episode, and still appearing in the 10th (but apparently not the 11th!)

Now now, it's unknown at this time IF they'll advance to 6-10 on Wednesday. It could be just 1-5 all week long, which would be perfectly fine by me. Remember there is some reason they had to bump the weekend streaming Toonami block back 4 weeks from the on-air broadcast. And Episode 5 just got done airing on the weekend, so it might be as far back as they can go. I guess we'll know Wednesday night at about 7:15 PM! And it's probably best that the on-air marathon starts at Episode 5, because this just wouldn't draw very well with a rerun:
