The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board
OwlChemist81 replied to StarPanda's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Doesn't translate well over message boards! S: ShowBuzzDaily has updated their Saturday ratings page, and we now know how well Hunter x Hunter, Shippuden, and GITS did. Putting it all together (so far), now we have this for 12:05 AM onward: 12:05 AM DBZ Kai: The Final Chapters 924,000 12:30 AM JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 829,000 (89.72%) 1:00 AM JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 747,000 (90.11%) 1:30 AM Hunter × Hunter 687,000 (91.97%) 2:00 AM Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn 555,000 (80.79%) 2:30 AM Naruto: Shippuden 562,000 (101.26%) 3:00 AM Ghost In The Shell HD 510,000 (90.75%) Keep in mind this doesn't include the final episode of Sand Whale And Me. Anyhoo, when it comes to retention among total viewers, it turns out the JoJos didn't doo too bad and Gundam was the turkey. Good on Shippuden for beating that though! -

There's this now, but no real new information here. http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/daily-ratings/saturday-cable-ratings-april-15-2017/ At least all of Toonami's cable originals except Gundam Unicorn managed to beat Doctor Who, despite its feature on this website! I thought they would go with the NBA Playoffs for the picture feature, but no. -
My DVR informed me last night when I got home that Boondocks is back on weeknights! It's airing this week at 12:15/11:15 CT.

That may have been a factor, but I'm not so sure since the numbers bounced back the following week, and in fact Jack did BETTER in adults 18-34 AFTER the R&M pre-emption. This is by a wide margin pretty much its worst week yet in 18-34, and the blame for most of that rests squarely on NBA Playoffs, which were not a factor last week and averaged a 1.23 directly opposite Jack's 0.79. It may even be that 10 PM Wednesday's Jack airing does its best this week as folks who were mesmerized by Jazz @ Clippers tune in to catch up. It's up against the tail end of Thunder @ Rockets but right after it ends the Trailblazers @ Warriors follows at 10:30. That might be enough of a break for it to eke out a good number (though we won't know its 18-34). Well, here comes Attack on Titan Season 2 but the question is "what happens when it or Jack leaves?" It will probably do better than the show it's replacing, but what then? If AOT shoots up to 11 when Jack leaves, then that will leave an open slot on June 3rd. Also Gundam Unicorn is most likely ending June 10th, so that slot opens June 17th. And if we're simply losing 11 PM, then that would mean AOTS2 will end in late July or early August. We know, despite disappointing ratings for Battle Tendency, that they're looking into Stardust Crusaders, but that would be another long-runner. We don't know what the status of Gundam IBO S2 is, but it would probably be crappy of them to debut that at 2 AM directly following Unicorn, and based on ratings IF AOTS2 is moving up to 11 PM when Jack ends, then the 12:30 AM slot would probably be a better candidate for it, since it like AOT is a dub premiere. Of course Stardust Crusaders is also a dub premiere beyond the first 3 episodes, so that would also be a good candidate for the 12:30 AM slot, but if Gundam IBO S2 replaces AOT if/when AOT replaces Jack at 11, effectively doubling-down on Gundam for 2 weeks, then I would have to guess that SC's best shot would be to replace Tokyo Ghoul. As for the 2 AM slot vacated by Gundam Unicorn? Probably Lupin III Part 4 or something classic. However, if AOT holds on to the 12:30 AM slot even after Jack ends, that changes things dramatically. Gundam IBO S2 would be stuck having to replace Gundam Unicorn at 2 AM unless they desire to give Tokyo Ghoul a break between its first season and Root A, which would mean it would probably return next year with Root A or maybe even replace Hunter x Hunter briefly. The fact that when Gundam Unicorn ends, Tokyo Ghoul season 1 will still have an episode left, leads me to believe that it wouldn't just end up at 2 AM for its last episode. Perhaps they could pull a JoJo with it and give Hunter x Hunter a week off while Tokyo Ghoul Season 1 gets an hour-long Season 1 finale before ending up at 2 AM for Root A, while Gundam IBO S2 premieres at 1 AM after AOT the following week. Also under this scenario, we don't get any "dark horses" like Lupin III or Blue Exorcist Season 2, unless Dragon Ball Super takes a break, but since it would be leading off the block that's highly unlikely. I can't see Blue Exorcist Kyoto Arc at 11:30, but ANIPLEX just might mandate that if Toonami wants to deal for it. I fear that it will end up on Anime Strike, which would be utterly disgusting. -

I think you're right about that! I noticed something interesting while rewatching JoJo last night: I believe they used the same recycled bumps from the 12:30 episode during the 1 AM episode kind of like they did for the Parasyte marathon, at least until the commercial break of episode 26, which featured scenes from episode 25. I'm going to have to rewatch again to see if that was in fact the case, as I don't remember what the internal bumps of episode 25 were like. But it seems like the effort level is much higher with Attack on Titan Season 2 despite it being relegated to the timeslot after the Dragonball Hour, but it and Tokyo Ghoul were probably purposefully placed there to lift the midblock. While Toonami is intent on picking up Stardust Crusaders, it's also apparent that after Battle Tendency began to disappoint in the ratings they probably considered it a "throwaway" show. -

That's actually the 8 PM airing of Super, which pretty much does lower than Kai consistently. But that's actually very good for it! By all measurements it hasn't been this good since February 25th! ShowBuzzDaily and TV By The Numbers don't even touch the 11:30 PM airing since it's a same-night encore. We won't find out how well it did, not even an estimate, until the Programming Insider numbers come out usually in late afternoon, and we also won't know its 18-34 number. -

Last week Jack hit a series low, and everything else pretty much followed suit, as NBA Basketball made Toonami its bitch: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-4-15-2017.html 4/15/2017 Dragon Ball Super (8 PM) - #12 (+12) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.41 Estimated 18-34 - 279,000 ( 32.07% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.35 Estimated 18-49 - 449,000 ( 51.61% ) Total Viewers - 870,000 4/15/2017 Samurai Jack - #6 (-5) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.79 Estimated 18-34 - 537,000 ( 40.22% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.66 Estimated 18-49 - 846,000 ( 63.37% ) Total Viewers - 1,297,000 4/15/2017 DBZ Kai: Final Chapters - #7 (-5) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.57 Estimated 18-34 - 387,000 ( 41.88% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.45 Estimated 18-49 - 577,000 ( 62.45% ) Total Viewers - 924,000 4/15/2017 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - #9 (-3) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.56 Estimated 18-34 - 381,000 ( 45.96% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.42 Estimated 18-49 - 538,000 ( 64.90% ) Total Viewers - 829,000 4/15/2017 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - #11 (-6) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.44 Estimated 18-34 - 299,000 ( 40.03% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.36 Estimated 18-49 - 462,000 ( 61.85% ) Total Viewers - 747,000 4/15/2017 Gundam Unicorn - #21 (-4) Adults 18-34 Rating - 0.35 Estimated 18-34 - 238,000 ( 42.88% ) Adults 18-49 Rating - 0.26 Estimated 18-49 - 333,000 ( 60.00% ) Total Viewers - 555,000 The worst news is that this week that pattern will likely continue since Toonami will be up against Game 3 of a Playoff Series between the Golden State Warriors and the Portland Trailblazers. And next week depending on how the series goes may be even worse as Toonami is up against Game 7s on TNT! But perhaps the huge influx of viewers to ESPN had to do with the fact that it was the first game of the playoffs and Attack on Titan and the return of Tokyo Ghoul will hold viewers better than JoJo ever could? Also, Phantom Blood (which is currently streaming on the Toonami Marathon Stream Channel) has now done objectively much better than Battle Tendency in the ratings. PB averaged a 1009K in total viewers and a 397K in adults 18-34, but then BT only mustered 835K on average in total viewers and 358K in adults 18-34. (PB averaged 604K in adults 18-49 but BT's true final average is still pending.) And unholy squirrel, you would THINK JoJo would be able to hold JoJo well, but apparently that wasn't the case, as it dropped a mind-boggling 0.14 in the young adult demo (18-34) from the first episode to the 2nd. Perhaps right after Episode 25 ended some young adults changed the channel to ESPN as the buzz was growing about the crazy finish to that game, and then tuned back afterward, but the effect hurt Episode 26's ratings overall? At any rate, JoJo: BT's final battle might have been the worst-rated final battle on Toonami since Hellsing Ultimate X, while its counterpart in PB was the show's personal best, despite being more of a tragic ambush than a true final battle. -
Attack on Titan Season 2 on Toonami April 22nd!
OwlChemist81 replied to Blatch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I'm not even sure how long ago it's been, but whatever. Maybe on Memorial day, we get AOT and DB Super as normal as the former moves up to 11 PM, then a 7-episode marathon at midnight? I guess we'll see! -
Bump because it's back this week (4/17-4/21)! Perhaps this time it will actually advance to episodes 6-10 Wednesday night at about 9 PM? I thought they would be doing Attack on Titan, but maybe the switcheroo last week was too soon for [as] streaming to adjust? Either way, kinda nice to be able to start it from the beginning, especially with Episode 11 still streaming. Plus, after having seen all of Battle Tendency, I've gotta say that I like Phantom Blood better, and so did [as] viewers... [fight me bro]

Your Toonami Streaming Schedule for the Weekend
OwlChemist81 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
What's wrong with diehard Toonami fandom? They always seem to get the best shows, with a few exceptions. Besides, subscription services seem like more of a commitment. The Toonami stream is often something I have in the background while I do other stuff, and its value is that I sometimes notice nuances of some of the more complex shows (such as Gundam and Ghost) the nth time I might have missed the n-1th! -

Attack on Titan Season 2 on Toonami April 22nd!

Remember, Golden Week is a thing and it's coming up soon. AOT may take a break that week, which would mean we'd be briefly behind the Japanese broadcast by only 2 episodes, falling back to 3 after OUR "Golden Week" (Memorial Day)! -

From March 18th: Oddly enough, when this lineup played on the Toonami Marathon Stream this past weekend (4/14-4/16), I appreciated Dragonball Super and Ghost In The Shell quite a bit more. -

And now the endblock has just ended for by most measurable standards the last watchable time this weekend, but how does it stack up? Shippuden's next-to-last week in filler hell on the stream is last of the end... One Piece gets in a final cheers amid some skullfudgery by Brook at #2, and finally... Ghost In The Shell is my pick for best of the back third, with much improved visuals over the first 5 episodes that streamed this year! -

The sweet, brutal midblock: JoJo was mostly a transitional episode, so it takes the 3rd spot among the midblockers. Gundam Unicorn had amazing, brutal action, but it was just edged out by... An episode of Hunter x Hunter that kept you glued to the edge of your seat, starting with the brutal assault on the auction, and tending toward Uvogin's assault in the canyon, plus the Shadow Beasts' introduction right at the end! A little later tonight, I'll rank the end-block, Shippuden, One Piece, and GITS! -

One of your last chances to catch this great lineup is happening now! The first 3 shows down (not counting SWAM); here's some of their best moments: Of them, I rank Jack first, Super 2nd, and the "transition" episode of DBZ KFC last, so far... But JoJo streams next... -
Just what the hell makes you think Uvogin was gay? I'll give you Speedwagon (although I don't believe he was either), but I can see even less of Uvo! You know what? I don't even think about it. There's not enough information given toward these characters' sexuality to make an objective determination, and I'm FINE with that!
