Toonami Weekly Marathon Stream 2017 Archive & Updates

Tokyo Ghoul Root A this week. Since Halloween is Tuesday and Day of the Dead (which involves masks) is Thursday, good call. Even if it's just the same 5 episodes beat to death all week, at least they work with the season! Edit: the episode selection is quite strange. I'm not sure if we actually see the One-Eyed Owl in these episodes (well, not in Owl form anyway). To make a long story short, it's actually Episodes 15-19, which I figured out because Episode 20, the 8th of Root A, is titled "Old Nines", and that's what showed in the next episode preview right before the cut to Pre-Flight. If the Wednesday advance is back this week, then that means the week would end with Episodes 20-24. Not that I ever wanted to see that ho-hum ending again, but it's kinda neat that they're doing it with a series if so. Now if they would only do it with Gundam Unicorn, as that would leave 13-17, the content of OVA's 5-6, on Monday-Wednesday, and then 18-22, the content of OVA 7, on Wednesday-Friday. That would be pretty neat, even if everyone who wants to watch it that way has probably already used their DVRs to do so. -
Thanks! Yep, that's me!!

...which means (surprise, surprise), it will probably replace JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders on Toonami! Hopefully they'll give it a better timeslot than they did Season 2. I think that's one huge thing that held S2 back. If Stardust Crusaders can hang on to 12 AM, that bodes well for AOT S3. However, I don't know what shape DBZ KFC will be in by then. One huge advantage of FLCL 2 NOT replacing DBZ KFC and instead airing at midnight between the "halves" of JoJo would be that we might get through DBZ KFC by July in time for AOT S3 to take over 11:30, where it would certainly get better ratings than it did at 12:30. Also, if MHA S1 is indeed replacing Lupin as I'm theorizing as Toonami's first major 2018 pickup, it would give JoJo credence to maintain its midnight timeslot (though Gundam and Hunter x Hunter would probably move down) while it "alternates" with FLCL at Midnight. But of course all this is speculation, except for the part about AOT S3 coming to Japan in July:

This looks straight-up badass! Toonami's about to do it again, ONE HOUR EARLIER this time!!!

Toonami's Influence On Netflix's 2018 Anime Craze
OwlChemist81 replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
A few things to keep in mind: 1. This ask.fm post was made 3 months ago. 2. 3 months later and still no MHA on Netflix, so it's somehow unlikely that 2nd sentence had anything specifically to do with MHA, and 3. The budget resets every year Based on all that, I'd say it's somewhat likely we'll see MHA premiere on Toonami in 2018. Best case scenario, it would replace Lupin the 3rd in January. Depending upon what happens November 25th (marathon in 2015 but none in 2016), Lupin will end on January 14th or 21st. I would say that the following week an MHA premiere would be ideal, because there are 38 episodes out at the moment, which is slightly less than 9 months. Assuming normal marathons on Memorial Day Weekend, July 4th weekend (though maybe not next year because that would be June 30th), and Labor Day Weekend, there would be 41 weeks to get through all those episodes, and then a November simul-dub of MHA Season 3 would premiere on Toonami (as it's slated to arrive in October 2018). That way, Toonami could use 2018 leading up to the premiere of MHA Season 3 to catch up on Seasons 1 & 2. But this is all just speculation at this point, it's important to note. And of course unless MHA Season 1 is relegated to 1:30 AM (a move that might not be too bad since it's not a dub premiere), that would also cause JoJo and/or Gundam and Hunter x Hunter to move down. Of course the other wild card is FLCL S2 & S3, but I believe the best course of action with those would be to whisk DBZ KFC off the schedule for 6+ weeks while each mini-season airs at 11:30. In light of the fact that AOT S3 has now been announced for July, I might need to amend this. The status quo seems to indicate that DBZ KFC is done in April or May if it doesn't get interrupted (man, I thought we got to spend longer with Kid Buu!) I still say if FLCL 2 is an 11:30 show, the 6-week interruption in DBZ KFC would probably be best. However, with that, it would end in July and get replaced by AOT S3, while JoJo keeps on truckin' at either midnight or 12:30 depending upon whether or not they pick up MHA, which even in Season 1 might be a midnight show. But I really feel that if they try to get to simul-dub premieres of Season 3 in October, the best plan would be to start it in January after Lupin's ending with Season 1 at 12:30 or later, then maybe move it up with Season 2 in April, and then finally give it its best timeslot (11:30 or Midnight) with Season 3 in October or November. -

OwlChemist81 replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
WHO is reporting that Toonami has picked up MHA? Damn right that's a great pick! For it to replace Lupin the 3rd would probably work out perfectly (though not in timeslot; JoJo and Gundam IBO should step aside for this one...), since Season 3 is supposedly coming out in October 2018! Then again, maybe 1:30 WOULD be OK for MHA from the beginning... -

Toonami's Influence On Netflix's 2018 Anime Craze
OwlChemist81 replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Warcraft was at least decent. And I think the Tomb Raider movies actually did pretty well, but as the games were basically a take on Indiana Jones, it's hard to screw that up. I don't think it's correct to say that Netflix and other streaming services are beating Toonami "in the ratings", plainly because they don't HAVE "ratings." Nielsen has yet to dig its grubby research-loving paws into streaming, so we will never really know how these shows are doing. But the idea that Netflix is producing 30 "Space Dandies" is a HUGE marker of success that took a cue from Toonami. It IS pretty huge that these will ALL be brand-new shows to both the U.S. AND Japan when they're released by Netflix worldwide. However, not like Toonami isn't following suit with their own originals, FLCL 2: Electric Boogaloo and FLCL 3, even if not in the same quantity as Netflix. I daresay they might even introduce another original before the end of '18 as well. -

That's not what he said. He said the main issue going forward will be getting new shows, and with that, I agree. But it does make sense what Toonami is doing, locking down huge franchises like Dragon Ball, JoJo, Gundam, and Lupin, because while not every series of them will catch fire, one of them is bound to at some point. Also, it kinda makes sense from a reliability standpoint: for stability's sake, better to go with a fresh take on an Old Reliable than something completely new. As for Darling In The Frankxx, well, I do have a source for that: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=19850. Its animation production is being done by a collaboration by A-1 Pictures and Trigger, and A-1 is a 100% subsidiary of Aniplex. I have yet to see a single project A-1 was involved with go to anyone but Aniplex. Easy name recognition? Sure. Same pedigree as KILL la KILL. But you are right about the simul-dub, which is why I feel it's not a deal-breaker if this show doesn't go to Toonami to replace Lupin in February. We're probably talking a dub by September '18, which would likely replace AOT S3 or Gundam IBO's replacement if it's Toonami-bound. -

Yeah, it was definitely great by 2017 standards! Great retention, except for Outlaw Star... Hopefully Countdown will grant 3 or 4 episodes a boost. As for the rest of the block, well, nothing else really stands a chance but I like the block's overall trajectory. Marathon events such as the one we've got coming up this weekend are OK, but I really hope there are no more bizarre schedule changes unless Toonami has their eyes on something huge like maybe Darling In The Frankxx next year. And of course, when the time comes, Toonami will have to decide if FLCL will air at 11 PM and knock everything down, or if it will temporarily take DBZ Kai's place at 11:30. As for me, I'm hoping for the latter. I don't think Aniplex would deliver a speed dub of DITF so maybe that would replace JoJo or Gundam when the time comes. And of course, I'm sure we can expect to see AOTS3. Hopefully it would get a better timeslot than 12:30 though. -

In case anyone cares, no advancement. Still GITS #26-#30. That makes the 9th week in a row of no Wednesday advancement. I'd say that's the new norm. If you watch on Monday, you've seen everything for the week. It is such a shame. When this first debuted in 2015, every Monday morning was like Christmas morning, because you KNEW (with a few glitchy exceptions) you were getting a full cour of a series for the next 2 days. Now? It's just the same 5 episodes over and over and over again all week! Useful for a busy weekday schedule, but terrible for watching a whole series. Weekends for the most part have retained their excitement. Sure, the stream is now 4 weeks behind, but at least you're still getting episodes later in normal size series than episodes 1-5, and it might be useful to rewatch them for stuff you missed before, especially if your recording glitched. -
Just watched the first 2 episodes of Juni Taisen/Zodiac War. I like it so far. It has good psychology and is about as bloody as Hellsing!

Oh, ok. I see what you're saying. The numbers it gives for the adult demographics in thousands are: A 18-24: 30,890 A 25-34: 42,570 A 35-49: 60,730 If you add those up, you get 134,190, which means that 134.19 million viewers would be a 100 in ratings points, and a 1.0 would be 1.3419 million. I had been using 1.282 million for my estimates, but that might be low-balling it. Also, a trickle of new data: http://programminginsider.com/ratings/final-nationals/saturday-final-nationals-yankees-astros-alcs-game-seven-sets-new-fs1-viewer-record/ It turns out that DBS didn't lose that badly from Family Guy after all!! But that seems to be high. If you take the viewer numbers from October 14th and average them, you get 336,300. Then divide that number by the average of the decimals from October 14th (0.262) and you get 1,283,588. Doing the same with October 7th, you get 390,900/0.302 = 1,294,371. So, the actual number might be higher than 1282K, but not quite that high. Walking Dead's special got beat by both DBZ Kai and JoJo in 18-49. That's not too shabby! Even though those timeslots used to pull millions in overall viewers, and now they're 600-800K, as long as they keep doing well in 18-49, Toonami's not in any danger. -

Pretty much business as usual for DBZ KFC and JoJo: Stardust Crusaders although potentially over 450K IS pretty good for JoJo. Remember, Rome was not re-built in a day, and as long as there's no major shakeups for a while outside of marathon events, I expect Toonami's ratings to keep climbing slowly but steadily. Meanwhile, prime time Dragon Ball Super plunged all the way from a 0.51 18-49 to a 0.29. Ouch! I guess that's what happens when [as] CN lead-in isn't as strong, as Lego Movie from 2014 was apparently much weaker than Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo! But it will be led-into by the 2015 Adventure Time movie this week, and that should provide a boost for the reruns. We'll find out more about the last normal night in October later on today! -

OwlChemist81 replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
This is true, but only on the weekdays. On weekends from about 9 PM Friday through 8 AM Monday ET, the stream actually shows the entire Toonami block from 4 weeks prior. That is actually a useful feature for anyone who doesn't have Adult Swim on cable who would like to keep up with these shows. And with few exceptions due to glitches (such as when they mistakenly showed Gundam IBO episode 18 instead of Gundam Unicorn episode 18), it's exactly the same, only 4 weeks behind. The weekday stream started out useful, and actually played through an entire show in a week. Then in 2016 around April they scaled it back to 5 shows at a time, playing twice between each Pre-Flight episode. This has long since been mind-boggling to me, as it seems it would just make more sense to play 5 episodes, then Pre-Flight. But that's not currently how they do it. The whole thing is just one great big major head-scratcher, and it seems to me they would be better off just letting that old Toonami block play all week long. -

Took the words right out of my mouth! Well at least it's not Samurai Jack. Looks passably decent on a smartphone, but full-screen streaming on a laptop? FUGEDDABOUTIT!!! :painfap: And still no JoJo: Stardust Crusaders or Outlaw Star on weekdays. -

Yeah, but Futurama was super successful as a lead-in/lead-out to anime on Adult Swim. A LOT more successful than Family Guy is now. Besides, you're missing the point. Futurama may not be anime, but it is ANIMATION. Just the fact that Syfy is even trying regular animation for the first time in 6-1/2 years is pretty huge!
