I'm on a 75/75 network right now, and this shit is STILL loading. :|

IRC, the poly count is around 600k which is WHY i never got around to texturing it  :D

Also, you're on a mac, this iframe app requires hardware acceleraton enabled on your browser. If you have some crummy nvidia GT in there idk...

Doesn't matter. That particular frame and weblink needs some work. Finally got it to load, but the bitch took too long. If it were an In and Out, I would've left by the time it loaded, because I've got shit to do.

600k alot

movie models can have anywhere between 500k or less to 20mil or more

it really depends on the complexity of the model

for a mecha... shit.. originally the model was around 20k when I FIRST made it, but then i converted it to a higher poly mesh.

the sata and power chip on the HDD that model used to be stored on is busted, and I need to get around to repairing it eventually. I have a LOT of portfolio material on that drive

you wouldn't want 600k polys on a model in a video game, that level of complexity these days usually gets dropped to anywhere from 1k to 50k or slightly more in extreme cases. and plus they use LODs now which render better quality models the closer you are to an object.

again

tl;dr

basically it depends. :D

How long had you been 3D modeling when you made this?

Since 1999. I never studied anatomy so when it comes to creating creatures and shit, I suck. It's one of those things you need to be taught to fully grasp. I've dabbled in the past but none of my results came out well. I'm better off using a stock model from like... mudbox or something and then expanding from there.
