Maybe I'm just thinking of the  pc help thread. Windows is only 60% ready for installation... This is why I havent made a vm already. I had to download the windows 10 OS ISO file that took forever and now I'm mounting it to the virtual machine in virtualbox. I might as well let this sit and go about my business not sure yet.

:D I think you mean the PC HELP thread that's floated in this very board?

I'm going to leave this as it's own thing currently in both the hopes that someone who knows what they are doing sees it to respond to it fairly quickly and that because I already posted in here you don't get dunked on too much for not seeing the thread.

It might get merged into that thread later though. So heads up. ;)

I mean that in the cheekiest way possible of course. :P You do realize I mentioned that exact thread in the op. I realize it's floated. I don't need pc help though. I might legitimately need the rants folder after having to go through cortana though. I don't remember having to do all this initial set up with my host pc I guess because I upgraded from 7 and I had a local mom and pop shop guy boot this pc with a copy of his win 7 originally.

I don't have an SSD.  I'd like one though. This is first time I've set up a virtual machine though or dealt with all the useless cortana set up screens win 10 goes through.

that'd be your problem then. If you're using a standard hard drive then it's to be expected.

An SSD is the single most greatest improvement that can be made to a pc, you can get even a 512gb one for like $60, using a standard hard drive for everything else like steam games or large files.

I myself am having an issue with my pc in which the only thing that solved it was doing a full, clean install of windows via USB, me testing thing out by installing it on another partition so my main one isn't deleted in case it doesn't solve my problem, which it did solve. The problem I'm facing though is since I use OEM keys for Windows instead of a retail key, and with the way I did that install I'd have to buy another OEM key, that being why I haven't switched over yet

I'm not really sure I like the VirtualBox screen interface. Even when the vm desktop is full screened it just kind of plasters a box in the middle.. and the vm wont let me change the graphic settings to the full screen resolution my host computer is set to. I'm pretty much entirely new to virtual machines though so this is still neat.

I've tried VirtualBox a few times in the past and I'm not a fan of it. In my experience it's only useful for older pc games not supported by w10

any idea if VMware is better? I have an acquaintance that uses Virtualbox to run a lot of shit decently but then again he's an actual IT guru that knows all the deeper intricacies and hidden shortcuts involved with configuring anything.

no clue, I don't know much about that level of tech. I think the computers in my school district are set up to work through VMware, and it seems to work pretty good.
