There must be an entire warehouse in Japan, probably an underground facility locked n' guarded with all the  failed prototypes.

 

One can only imagine the endless and ridiculous variations/perhaps alternate universes/story lines of our favorite characters.

There are thousands of scripts like that, original ideas, adaptations, ideas that get pitched to editors and shot down on a daily basis only to find new life somewhere else.

I mean, at one point someone in Hollywood optioned a live action Ranma 1/2.  Just...think about that.  Think of how many scripts pass by an executive’s door.

This happens all the time. Ever read/seen Bakumon?  The shonen feel comes directly from how incredibly difficult and competitive the industry is!
