MEXobiologist
gonna go buy a snare drum today This is about the only good thing about that movie. If it inspires people to pick up an instrument. As a story about mental and emotional abuse, its good. It just ticks me that it is full of gross misrepresentations dealing with jazz, music education, and playing. The whole thing was just frustratingly inaccurate and put some funny ideas into peeps heads. This is an interview with Peter Erskine which I thought pretty much nailed the movies faults. Phillies
The music teacher's methods weren't suppost to be nice. And life is not nice either, and life is the teacher sometimes. Thats not a theme of the movie, just my own view of it. A good job doesn't always cutt it.

Thats not a theme of the movie, just my own view of it. A good job doesn't always cutt it. i agree in my limited experience with music teachers, ive always fucked off cause they didn't seem at all interested in their thing, which is probably too much to ask anyway, and im probably to blame too cause i didn't give them a fair chance, but i feel that with something like music, and anything really, it's ultimately more beneficial for the one student out of ten that does care and is 100% invested in their playing to have a teacher that's closer to someone like fletcher's passion for playing. this+ me already being super antisocial led me to just learn guitar by myself, and it's been a slow process, but i think it works out better than having a teacher.
