mochi Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 they made the gay lines in Yuri on Ice much MORE blatant in their dub (and might be doing the same in Junjou Romantica...not that either show needs it) but also licensed a Lesbian show called "Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid" and they apparently REMOVED all the Lesbian lines from that one(the Sub retains them)....kinda like how DIC's dub of Sailor Moon called Uranus and Neptune "Cousins" to hide ther Lesbianism Why though? Leon Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Funimation dubs are never strict translations of the material. That's nothing new. Quote
PokeNirvash Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Maybe that's because Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid isn't actually yuri. Quote
mochi Posted February 13, 2017 Author Posted February 13, 2017 Maybe that's because Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid isn't actually yuri. perhaps but the Sub retains the lesbian lines Quote
Blatch Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 The MaiDragon incident is probably more incompetency than anything. If enough people care, they'll fix it for the home media release. Quote
EyeOfPain Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 They changed a line in MaiDragon from "But I'm a girl" (a common trope in yuri) to "I'm not into women" (paraphrasing, maybe). So the line was changed from coy to denial, not removed. In all likelihood, it's probably a line that fit the lipflaps better, and the writer didn't think about it beyond that. Quote
