The problem isn't the database itself though, it's SMF's non-scaling queries. For another $12 a month or so I could put another 3GB in this and just deal with it though. MariaDB is literally a drop in for MySQL. It's API compatible. It's purpose is so you can use MySQL applications without having to deal with Oracle. SMF is a MySQL application.
