Elaine was trying to convert a gay guy to being straight (so they can be romantically entwined). She said she hoped he would "switch teams." He said, "But I'm a starting shortstop." Now, the missed opportunity, was for him to either say "I'm a starting pitcher" or "I'm a starting catcher." shithead
