    Clearly the water effects from his sword are symbolic, they're clearly not manifesting for real. This is why I LOVE animation. It can make fantastical things believable. If this were done in live action and the water effects were still there but animated, it wouldn't work.

    Soul Eater also had the priviledge of being animated by the miraculous BONES, and given the animation director and director of Ouran High School Host Club, so I acknowledge it wasn't just the mangaka's change in writing style.
