Fact: Biden killed the pipelines. Fact: Oil is now largely transported by truck or train, which costs considerably more. Fact: Biden has been deliberately withholding permits and/or leases for more drilling, which causes lost productivity and adds the new experiences of paying rent for lands that the oil companies are not allowed to drill on. Fact: The three above mentioned factors are issues that can only be addressed with substantial price hikes. Fact: Trump plans to end the Biden policies. Fact: If Trump is successful in his bid, the price of gas and oil will drop and the electric companies and other businesses that depend on oil will again be able to cut their prices.

Problem: The amount of stolen property in this place is absolute zero. -
It's only tax evasion when the tax is applied equally to all people at all times, instead of deliberately singling out and targeting one specific group of people. Think of New Jersey's sales tax, for example. Supposedly, the tax is "state wide" while the reality is that the state is now peppered with UEZ. Every business in a UEZ only collects half of the state's sales tax. What is now happening is that one appliance store in a UEZ is always making three to four times more sales than another appliance store which is just five blocks outside the UEZ. The one outside may have to close soon. So, would it be tax evasion if the outsider figured out how to level that playing field, even illegally? It all comes down to a government that cherry picks its favorites from those they deem to be in disfavor and thus giving an unfair advantage to a selected group. Is that how government and taxation are supposed to work? The tobacco tax on the other hand is nothing but a big money grab that benefits nobody and exists ONLY because smokers are an unpopular minority that nobody wants to defend.

You do realize, of course, that your landlord's property taxes are counted into the amount of rent you pay? I mean, would he bother catering to you at all if he could only charge less than what he's paying out for those taxes? -
On a related note in pawn shops, a Seiko is a watch that a pawn broker could buy for twenty dollars and end up selling for fifty or sixty dollars. Problem: Guy walks in, offering to sell one, the second hand isn't moving and he swears it still works. Okay, so what does the broker do? He changes the battery. If that hand starts moving, the broker may opt to buy it. If not, the broker just says, "Sorry, I can't help you here." The same broker has hundreds of new batteries in stock of nearly every size for watches and he doesn't object to selling a new battery for five bucks and spending three minutes to put it in.

It's only gouging when the price hike has no basis or reasoning behind it. If it's costing you a dollar to make a sandwich that you're selling for a dollar fifty, you wouldn't be gouging anybody when your meat and bread are suddenly costing you fifty cents more and you raise the price of a sandwich to two dollars. Every single thing that is sold or ever has been sold works the very same way and yes, that includes oil and gasoline.

So, in you case, was there even an investigation? If not, why do you still pay your property taxes? -
