  1. i have to certify yearly that i don't have any other means of gaining notable income except for the company I am currently at. if it's like $20 under the table helping a friend move, yeah obviously no one cares
  2. Employees who work in the private-sector do not, as a rule, have First Amendment protection for their speech in the workplace. https://corporate.findlaw.com/law-library/freedom-of-speech-in-the-workplace-the-first-amendment-revisited.html
  3. i'm telling you dude, they tell people that we have to report it and get approvals from the compliance team. what happens if we've already donated and don't get approvals? idk maybe it's just a slap on the wrist but i'm not willing to find out.
  4. nope, any amount needs to be approved. i know because we just got a company wide email to report anything we may have donated during the 2018 midterms
  5. WE'RE GETTING OFF TOPIC EITHER WAY. I'D LIKE TO DO SOME FORM OF WORK
  6. it's a private company. i don't think 1A arguments are really going to apply here.
  7. yeah like if you donate to a state senator's election campaign or something it has to get approved. anything federal election level is fine so long as the person's not currently a state senator/representative
  8. i think their reasoning was to avoid any allegations of "pay to play", though i might be confusing myself with their rules about political contributions needing to be approved. my last company required the same thing so that leads me to believe it's not that uncommon
  9. for the same reason i'm probably never going to retire. i need to do something constructive and feel like i'm contributing. the only reason i have so much saved now in my 401k is in case i get into any medical problems that are going to eventually force me to stop. but unless that happens, i'm probably going to be doing some form of work until i die.
  10. i've thought about that but the closest library doesn't have enough computers to make it so i won't be bored. i'd have to go to the main one, which is not near here. i also don't have the patience to teach. any volunteer work that is not done through a company affiliated non-profit is also subject to approval. though that's mostly to stop people from volunteering for politically motivated organizations that may not align with our values. the approval i'd need for non-political volunteer work is much easier to manage and would only really take finding something i care enough about to spend time doing. i would like to spend that time though earning some form of payment, if at all possible.
  11. my sibling is the artsy one, i'm the scientific one. the only thing i can do with my hands is make hand puppets
  12. i'm not doing as well as others within the same field. having a second job would put me on par with the level of savings i should have
  13. trust me i've looked at other places. i could have made 9k more somewhere else but the benefits were not nearly as good.
  14. a non-compete agreement and it states no secondary work, even if it's not in the same field, unless you have some crazy level of approval. there's no wage increase i'm going to be able to negotiate which is going to be more than just getting an additional job. even at 5%
  15. i mean that so long as i am an FTE to my current company I can not take any PT, contract, or other paid work without approval. i'd like to
  16. i'm only good at one thing, and that thing unfortunately is mandated to not be used by any other company so long as i am an FTE
  17. i mean i enjoy working more than being at home. nothing to do here, it's boring
  18. i'm not thinking another 40 hour job. i'm thinking maybe like a 10 or 15 hour something on the side. maybe some tech support work or something. some people i know do that and pull an extra $25 an hour in additional to their salaried jobs.
  19. this basically explains my line of work
  20. we're all under a very strict agreement with the company that doesn't allow us to take additional work without an exhausting amount of approvals. i don't really do anything on the weekend except laze around the house. it'd be nice if they let us take other jobs. maybe not within the same field, because i could see that being a conflict of interest, but i'd like another outlet to make some money during my spare time
  21. 1 paid 5.75 to see it as a sunday matinee. i wouldn't pay anymore than that
  22. i think i'd run my car in my garage for a bit if that were the case
