  1. as far as "my workerbee" I've had some issues off and on there. The same bee was stirring up trouble with users from that board, then turned around and started begging them to come to this board. now said bee is buzzing an entirely different tune. but also said bee has been very helpful and energetic and put some time into helping the place get up and going. so I'm grateful to this bee. But also I see the trouble this bee sometimes gets into and don't necessarily approve of everything this bee does. but - I try to listen to everybody. But make no mistake, this decision isn't based on any individual volunteer or user's point of view. It's based on a lot of factors, coming together such that they make me go "hm maybe I should try it this way". another thought I had was just moving DF to the very bottom of the forum. Which would be possibly even better than invising it, people could still see it, but they'd have to scroll way down to the bottom. but also I really want to see if there's a difference without it. because - before we had it, things were going fantastically. since we adopted it, things have been going somewhat shittier with more moderation and complaints and such to deal with. I want to try it off for a bit. but - also be aware, I'm kind of still in love with the idea (of Dumpster Fires folder) so - I already kind of want it back. but I think more importantly, I really need to know if the place runs smoother without it or not.
  2. basically users complaining via reports and PMs and volunteers complaining about not necessarily being able to process those complaints effectively. Though - I wouldn't say overall the volume was enormous or anything. It was a factor in a larger equation. The driving factor for me I think had more to do with the general vibe of the board before Vs after Bab/DF. That and how much of my time is taken up with board BS vs being able to have fun. The vibe seems to have been driven down fairly continually since Bab/DF, and definitely I waste more of my time on board BS than I had to before Bab/DF. This is the time I have to feel things out, test things out, and try to keep what works and ditch what don't. it's not always 100% clear what is and isn't working. So you gotta try different stuff. I suspect, given what data I can muster, that Babbling and Dumpster Fires seem to be a drain on my time/energy as well as a bit of a drag on the community. I think that's probably true, but the only way to find out for sure is to try it both ways.
  3. also for the record, the Proboard had zero problems. It wasn't actually until we added some folders that the downward spiral began.
  4. actually fewer folders is better for load times.

actually thinking about getting rid of those too. just from a traffic perspective, the [as] folder particularly doesn't seem to get a lot of use. Toonami I think is justified because the ep discussions might otherwise clog up the regular anime folder.

there really was no driving over the line thing, and no single event. basically almost all of our moderating issues arose from there, and there's been a distinct change in overall atmosphere since Babbling and Dumpster Fires got switched on. Also I've never really liked the idea of people wanting this place to be the ASMB. But - there was no single tipping point. It's just a thing I wanted to do since probably Ben's first meltdown shortly after we moved to this board. Just too much BS to shovel when I got other stuff to do. And Babbling was pretty much mostly FFA type stuff anyway with an occasional political thread. The only difference is a handful of people want to post in THAT GD instead of the other GD. Which doesn't seem quite enough in my mind to justify two GD boards. Especially with a fairly small user base. I really think the only thing Babbling brought to the table was ASMB nostalgia, and a pisspot for territorial x-ASMBers, neither of which is particularly high on my agenda for this place. If it feels like the place is missing something without it, I'm not adverse to restoring it necessarily. But it's just - too much work to maintain for what it added to the place, especially considering there was already a GD folder, and I'm kind of trying to move away from being seen as another ASMB.
  7. I agree that DF was a cool idea. But I have to try to be objective when measuring the actual success or failure of my own ideas too. and I'm not saying it's a total failure, or that it's gone for good, but - there was a marked difference in general board atmosphere before and after. So in order to see if that has to do with Dumpster Fires, or whether Dumpster Fires helps or hurts, I actually need to shut it off for a bit and gauge how things go without it. Basically there are many advantages to having it, there are also some issues with it. So - the only way to actually figure out what's what is to try it and see. I need to have it off for a significant enough period that I can gauge the effect of it in both directions. so it'll be off for awhile. Might come back. Depends on how things look with and without it.
  8. hungry. feel good. job sucks. have to go back to work tomorrow and it's supposed to rain I think? so that's - . I feel good though.
  9. working on rebooting a nonprofit I set up a gzillion years ago.
  10. I think it more depends scene for scene. you can do some creepy and visceral stuff with slow zombies. you can create a sense of immediate peril with fast zombies. for me I think - there's something creepier about - like something just slowly overtaking you than "OMG RUN". I guess maybe the idea of quick death vs slow death? or something. like with fast zombies there's no real time to be like "i'm fucked", with slow zombies, you can hit that realization and still have miles to go before you're actually dead. to me that's way worse.

  12. The board restructuring is basically done (for now at least) if a thread got moved somewhere and you'd rather it be somewhere else, post here and we'll see if we can dig it up and send it there, and/or provide an explanation for why not.
  13. broadening the scope of Rants a tiny bit to attempt to encourage more posting in the folder.
  14. we're having some problems with balancing the moderation system with still allowing users to edit posts. so we're going to switch out Dumpster Fires so nobody can see it again and just move stuff there. this may change again, but atm it seems like the best solution.
  15. General Discussion area will be going away in favor of what we had before. We may try things without Dumpster Fires see how that works, Babbling will go away, FFA will be moved back up to Welcome where it was before. Rants is going to replace the old "Editorials" section.

  17. "We found each other at such time as all seemed prepared for an end, each knowing all we cared to, having spent our love and wonder." Preface Chapter: Alternating Rhythms Lying on the ground, unfeeling. Eyes open. In a moment, I realize that I am looking up. Into the sky. There are disconnects. My body. The Sky. My head. My eyes. Light from the sun rushes through them in a sudden and vaguely painful wash. I have no focal precedent, feeling like an old man newly born of impact. Pain rises in light choral tones. I don't see the car that hit me. An old pickup truck glides to a halt at the stop with a pronounced and arching tone from its worn pads. An old man is staring at me through the window. After a moment, he drives on. The world is drawn around me in pencil, then filled in with watercolor blurs. Road. Sidewalk. Stop Sign. Houses. False separate elements in a box with no sides and no substance. There are moments that connect one with the universe, that speak to you as they speak to all. Then there are moments that define one's solitude and mock one's reality. Moments when you're lying on the ground somewhere, disconnected even from that. Will it feel the same once I am buried in it? Even as I decompose, would it ever truly accept me as part of it? Or would I simply become a channel of waste within the earth, not so much rejected as ignored? I remember thinking that I was able to move. But still not moving. Like an unfinished thought, neurons unable to reach their destination, Noh could never quite make connections with other people. It's not that he didn't want to, or lacked the ability to navigate, know, or perceive any given social interaction. It was the wall. The wall that stood between he and the finishing of the thought, the completion of the action, the social joining with any given individual. He lived in a universe of ghosts and specters, chattering away without meaning, echoing only what they'd heard elsewhere or lived long ago. Everything over the wall was without context to he or they. They floated and flew all around him at all times, dropping things, walking like lummoxes, rattling chains and cludding and thudding around. Yet they were never quite real, never manifested as much more than peripheral entities of annoyance, vague amusement, or sources of conjecture. And while they were as spirits in the corporeal world, he never quite saw them as such. Rather, he saw himself as the ghost. Present yet invisible, haunting space, moving in the world yet doing so unseen and unfelt. Most of the time. He still had to submit to the varied and ramshackle system of laws and tenants put in place by the spirits over time, some randomly conceived, some out of date, some seemingly intended to supplant common sense. But all were more important than he, and indeed more important even than those forgotten souls who carved them into the stone of presocius tableau. Haunted beings without life or structure, cast forever untouched as creatures of void. Such was the lot of his kind, cursed with little understanding, forced to cipher only what morsels of reality their limited thinking would allow. Still, he would swear he could feel them always, yawning a groan as the universe pulled them ever thinner. Such thoughts should not be thunk when trying to get to work on time. The hour was late, and so was Noh.
  18. yeah I hadn't either. what's interesting about it is how - even though the player seems to be Jason, it still feels really creepy.
  19. that particular site calls various games made for devices "board games" I guess - like if they have board game like elements or something? It's a board game site. But they also do articles about games made for devices and perhaps that's how they - sort of have to come up with some twisted justification for doing video games so they classify them as board games or something. people are weird. but this is an Ios game for that device, not a tabletop type board game.
  20. To everyone and everything that I didn't get the chance to say goodbye to. Overture The hardest lies, born from emptiness, nested within, impossible to tell when faced with the depth and breadth of your smile. The roads we walked stretched ahead insurmountably, so our only mode of procession was to take a step. The words, chosen with deliberation, were dropped as we went, a breadcrumb trail left to birds. If not for stories, we would have ended long ago.

  21. going to try it like this in the Media Bastards section: Anime (w/Toonami child board) Arts, Literature and Cuisine (arts books and food boards combined into one) Cartoons & Comedy (w/adult swim child board) Comics, Collectibles (IE "Stuff") & Gaming (table top) Horror Movies, Television & Streaming Shows Music Science, Technology & Computing Sports Video Games
  22. i - don't think we need to know the answer to this.
  23. WHAT WILL THE CLOWNS DO???
  24. Over the next few days to couple weeks I will be tweeking the board structure, mostly combining little used and/or like areas and cutting down on the number of sections and individual discussion folders. Things will ultimately not only look more like they did on the Proboard (from a discussion folder perspective), but actually even a little more consolidated than that.
