    Yeah, sometimes it can at least be done decently, or effectively at the beginning of a story, but often they suck. Since you mention it became a major pet peeve trope for you, I think one of the first more frustrating instances of it for me as a viewer that I still remember was the short amnesia set of eps in the otherwise mostly really good show

    Yeah, we got a little glimpse of that in Yukio's first little flashback in S1 with Fujimoto when Fujimoto recognized that Yukio wanted to overcome it and get stronger so that he could help his brother so he asked if he wanted to work with him and train as an exorcist.
