  2. The thing is, it SHOULD make sense as an 11:30 show. It's by far the show with the newest animation on the block (the next freshest animation I believe is Gundam IBO and before that Dragon Ball Super), and it SHOULD have the same sort of appeal that made Bleach and Soul Eater great. But I would also say that greatness has yet to manifest itself. Also, this week was light on college football, so it made sense that it was alright for fighting. UFC Fight Night is not an every week occurrence, and yes we have one this week but it's early. Boxing on ESPN is still quite uncommon. But next week we WILL have lots of College Football Bowl games. Let's see what it can do with its 3rd episode, but I wonder if it can carry 11:30 for long next year...
  3. Raise Your Flags!!! If you've been waiting to hear the dub of Season 2 of Gundam IBO, and don't have cable, now's your chance. Episodes 1-5 of season 2, #26-#30 overall, are now playing on the stream, yesterday through Friday, December 15th. Bang.
  4. First look at ratings for 12/9/17: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-12-9-2017.html 12/9/2017 Total Viewers Adults 18-34 Adults 18-49 Time Show People Retention Rating Estimate Retention Rating Estimate Retention Rank RankChg 10:30 PM Dragon Ball Super 1,111,000 N/A 0.59 401,000 N/A 0.48 615,000 N/A #6 -2 11:00 PM Dragon Ball Z Kai: Final Chapters 888,000 79.93% 0.46 313,000 77.97% 0.38 487,000 79.17% #7 +0 11:30 PM Black Clover 733,000 82.55% 0.39 265,000 84.78% 0.31 397,000 81.58% #14 -3 12:00 AM JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders 628,000 85.68% 0.30 204,000 76.92% 0.26 333,000 83.87% #19 -4 12:30 AM Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans 542,000 86.31% 0.26 177,000 86.67% 0.23 295,000 88.46% #26 -5 1:30 AM Lupin The 3rd 459,000 84.69% 0.25 170,000 96.15% 0.21 269,000 91.30% #34 -17 Dragon Ball Super was a champ, hitting a high not seen in 6 months on Toonami, though it did pop a slightly higher "fluke" rating at 8:30 PM on [as] a couple of months ago. All the other shows were chumps, but at least DBZ Kai and Black Clover did markedly better it total viewers, but not demographics. Just 2 hours into Toonami, the 18-34 numbers plunged under 0.3, which most likely means fewer than 200K in that demographic were watching. This is something which might not need to change, but SHOULD change in the new year. It will be interesting to see how well the marathons do.
  5. I'd have to say after seeing this episode, you're probably right. BRING ON THE CHIMERA ANTZ!!!
  6. And somehow, that makes this feel like the perfect role for him!!
  7. So is it "Akiter" or "Lafhiro?" Either way, the development of these two's semi-forbidden relationship is probably my favorite part of the drama!
  8. No, I'm thinking that when St. Patty's day falls on a Saturday, it's a big enough event that they might want to reach for a marathon. But unlike Halloween and the 4th of July (the latter of which I believe will NOT get a marathon in 2018), ONLY when it falls on a Saturday.
  9. Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato) 2199 would fit the bill on Seinen action, right? I daresay Lupin is Seinen. Comedic slapstick Seinen, but Seinen nonetheless. Replacing it with a shonen such as Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga would be a mistake.
  10. Who knew the theme of tonight would be calming babies down? DB Super and Black Clover so far in my Monday daytime viewing of Toonami, because I was just TOO DARN SLEEPY after waking up in a cold house at 7 AM Saturday morning and I did stay out until Midnight so I got to see Lupin live and--that's pretty much it. I actually like this show. Excessive flashbacks, but I feel it's pretty well done. No worse than Bleach was, anyway. And that was some really cool animation for when he finally vanquished the bastard!
  11. Fullmetal Alchemist did this and it wasn't too bad--of course they DID let the first fight finish, and this show didn't even do THAT! Boy, Asta is thicker than those dudes on those old A&W commercials; how the hell is he gonna forget that NUNS CAN'T MARRY!? So we see what it takes to be the Wizard King.
  12. No, that would be what almost happened back at the Pilaf Star in DBZ Super!
  13. Forget Monster of the Day: DBZ Kai is a "monster of the year" show! 2015: 2016: 2017: And next year, 2018:
  14. I'm more confused as to how she could handle atmospheric re-entry. Maybe she was still inside the stratosphere?
  15. I was wondering where in the hell this scene, that was featured in a previous Toonami interstitial, was finally going to air. The answer was Episode 22!
  16. Here we go! Fantastic voyage conclusion! And my phone bout ta die...
  17. Oh, you think there's another new show coming in in 2018? Nice theory! If January 2015 was the cutback, 2017 shall go down in history as the gradual "ratings be damned" regrowth! I had heard we would get to rewatch FLCL S1 in HD at some point before S2, and I wonder how that will be done...
  18. It's pretty much a foregone conclusion at this point that this won't happen with the current season of Lupin, but perhaps it will happen with Part 5: The French Adventure? If I had to take a wild guess which show will get an on-air marathon next, and when, I'd have to say...Black Clover, on St. Patrick's Day! It will have 13 episodes out by then, which makes it ripe for one!
  19. Now that the mystery of the holiday marathons has been solved, the next question is: what replaces Lupin the 3rd: The Italian Adventure on January 27th? Personally, I would love to see the long-awaited dub of Star Blazers 2199; it's finally premiering online on FUNimation and VRV, and DeMarco has gone on record saying he wants to air it on the block. It, like Lupin, is a modern-day remake of an old, old concept, and I feel would be ideal for the 1:30 AM timeslot. Another interesting possibility would be Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga. It had a suspiciously short streaming run on Hulu, and Toonami would have to have their eye on it since they aired the first season. A mid-block 1:30 timeslot seems slightly unfair for a series just over a year old, but keep in mind the first season aired its first 10 episodes in that timeslot. What else do you think it could possibly be? I believe we'll know sometime around Christmas!
  20. Bebop is a great, timeless show, but who in the heck does this benefit? Maybe the issue with shows like JoJo and Gundam IBO is their content is too objectionable for 10:30 PM? Though how that applies to Lupin, which even browns blood, is quite frankly beyond me. But I digress. I may be mistaken, but I believe this will be the first time Adult Swim airs Cowboy Bebop at 10:30 PM! Action was never aired at 10:30 PM on old [as] ACTN; at the earliest, it began at 11. Also, please note that if I'm right, at least until Toonami's first marathon in 2018, the only action shows to air at 10:30 PM on [as] will be Dragon Ball Super and Cowboy Bebop.
  21. I think it's possible that going forward, Dragon Ball Super MIGHT be affected by #MeToo and Roshi/Elder Kai suddenly lose their "pervy" moments, but we won't see that change in America until mid-2019!
  22. Fun fact, all of the episodes in this marathon have been run an irregular number of times: #34 (9/23/17, if we go back that far; they could just play 10 episodes with one episode in lieu of long interstitials) would have its 4th airing. #35 (9/30) and #36 (10/7) will also have their 4th airings. #37 (10/14) & #38 (10/21), since they aired twice back-to-back in the power hour on 10/21 and 10/28, will be up to their 5th airings! #39 (11/4) will have its 4th airing, but because we had a Toonami marathon on 11/25, #40 (11/11), and #41 (11/18), will both be up to their 5th airings as well! And then it gets really crazy. Since the power hour disappeared on 12/2, the episodes after that #42-#44 will only have their 2nd airing in the wee hours of the morning. But that's IF they just go with the previous 11 episodes. There is also a chance that they might go with just the meat of the 6th Universe Tournament arc, episodes #31-#41, and if that's the route they choose, #31 (8/25) would be on its 5th airing, while #32 (9/9) and #33 (9/16) would be on their 4th.
