  1. You're not wrong that it's all relative. I just noticed a very interesting tidbit from the Programming Insider report: http://programminginsider.com/saturday-final-ratings-warriors-rockets-generates-third-watched-abc-nba-saturday-primetime-telecast-date/ Dragon Ball Super (ADSM, 10:30 PM, 30 min.)– 1.068 million viewers (#29)– 0.51 A18-49 (#2) That #2 isn't #2 among cable originals--it's #2 across ALL CABLE in prime time Saturday! That means literally that the only show on cable that was more watched by adults 18-49 the entire 7 PM-11 PM portion of the night was Live PD. As long as Dragon Ball Super keeps doing stuff like that, Toonami has the 10:30 PM slot on lockdown! It turned out to be a great move for the block, though it needs a better bridge to the part after Midnight than DBZ Kai and Black Clover.
  2. If you had told me this time last year when Toonami had just fought successfully to get 11:30 PM back not once, not twice, but THREE times after losing it to Family Guy, that in a year we'd see a non-DB show end up at 11:30 and only pull 600K, and for everything to be just fine and Dandy, I'd wonder what the hell you were smoking. But apparently that's the reality we live in now. Toonami had such a GREAT 2015 and 2016 that apparently WON THE WAR for Saturday night and they can get away with what would have been considered cancel-worthy 3 years ago! That said, I hope Black Clover improves just a LITTLE next week!
  3. Yeah, I mean we went from DBS to JoJo to...false advertising. Craaaaaaaaaazy! Getting back to DBS, it actually seems to have failed to make the Nielsen Social Top 5 this week despite "cracking the million." This ain't the ratings thread, but I wonder if we'll see a catastrophic drop-off in Super's social buzz once it's not coming out in Japan anymore. It might be the only thing that was keeping it "alive" on Nielsen Social, but I guess we'll see. Maybe THAT'S when FLCL 2 arrives to give people something exclusive to talk about. And I guess that could be replaced with a true simuldub of AOT S3 or something.
  4. Well of course the chance of such a thing happening is slim, and I cover it in the rest of the paragraph by saying chances are it won't. Toward the end of this year, late summer at the earliest, is far more likely, and there are plenty of openings in mid-block that Part 5 of Lupin the 3rd could slip into. That's not completely true. Aniplex did TRY one with Durarara!! x2, but I doubt they'll be doing that again. The fact that FUNimation is dubbing Frankxx is evidence of that.
  5. Thanks!! And kudos to them for getting this info out early! PROGRAM Viewers (000) A1849 rating A1849 (000) 10:30 Dragon Ball Super 1068 0.51 658 11:00 Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters 844 0.39 507 11:30 Black Clover 626 0.29 374 12:00a Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders 540 0.26 338 12:30a Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans 502 0.25 319 1:00a Hunter X Hunter (r) 487 0.24 315 1:30a Lupin the 3rd: Part 4 419 0.22 285 2:00a Naruto: Shippuden (r) 427 0.22 287 2:30a Outlaw Star (r) 396 0.20 261 3:00a Cowboy Bebop (r) 434 0.21 274 3:30a Ghost in the Shell: 2nd Gig (r) 383 0.19 250 Look at Bebop go! In terms of total viewers, this episode beat Lupin, Shippuden, and Outlaw Star. I believe "Black Dog Serenade" always does well! And Shippuden also beat Lupin in 18-49. Not a good way to go out, Lupin! But at least the average was the best so far in 2018: 557K total viewers and 352K adults 18-49! It's on the right track but it still has yet to get close to the roll that the expanded lineup was on in December before the marathons interjected, which is too bad.
  6. I don't know if it's true that "no one cared," but it IS true that it didn't do very well in the ratings, even compared to other series that have aired at 1:30 or 2 AM in the past, or the other Lupin series that aired on [as]. It peaked at 595K total viewers (Episode 3), 357K adults 18-49 (Episode 17), and 251K adults 18-43 (also Episode 17). Believe it or not, it DID actually finish with an average just over 200K 18-34, so I think we'll still see Part 5 on Toonami; the question is "when?" If we're talking simuldub it might even get a timeslot boost, but I don't see a show leaving Toonami to give Lupin the 3rd Part 5 a timeslot, unless it's Gundam IBO, and that's ending in May, not April. But if it IS a TRUE simuldub, I guess it would make sense at 11 PM before Black Clover, moving up the Dragon Balls. Chances are it won't be, though, and mid-to-late block would be more appropriate whenever we get it. http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-sunday-cable-originals-network-finals-1-21-2018.html Also, we now have some evidence that midblock Toonami is doing about as good as or better than other nights, at least in [as]'s classic target demo of adults 18-34: Gundam and Lupin got a 0.30 and a 0.29 respectively, and SuperMansion on Sunday night at 1 AM managed only a 0.25. In all likelihood Hunter x Hunter beat that. It should be noted, however, that SM's 18-49 number of 0.24 just barely edges out the average of Gundam's (0.25) and Lupin's (0.22). We won't know if HxH actually beat SM in 18-49 until the Saturday page update comes out, though.
  7. Wait, FUNIMATION NOW got Darling in the Frankxx!?! That's pretty cool, though I guess NOT completely unprecedented. FUNimation DID also get the likes of FMA:B and Black Butler from Aniplex!
  8. Yeah, this is MUCH better than a year ago, well, for Dragon Ball Super, anyway: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-1-20-2018.html Yes indeed, Dragon Ball Super cracked a million for the first time in 2018, and also cracked 0.65 in 18-34 and 0.5 in 18-49, and almost everything else did better than last week as well: LAST WEEK (1/13/18): Adults 18-34 Show Rating Estimate Retention DBS 0.45 306,000 N/A DBZKFC 0.44 299,000 97.78% BClover 0.36 245,000 81.82% JoJo 0.26 177,000 72.22% Gundam 0.25 170,000 96.15% Lupin 0.29 197,000 116.00% Adults 18-49 Show Rating Estimate Retention DBS 0.37 474,000 N/A DBZKFC 0.34 436,000 91.89% BClover 0.29 372,000 85.29% JoJo 0.21 269,000 72.41% Gundam 0.19 244,000 90.48% Lupin 0.21 269,000 110.53% THIS WEEK (1/20/18): Adults 18-34 Show Rating Estimate Retention DBS 0.66 449,000 N/A DBZKFC 0.49 333,000 74.24% BClover 0.36 245,000 73.47% JoJo 0.32 217,000 88.89% Gundam 0.30 204,000 93.75% Lupin 0.29 197,000 96.67% Adults 18-49 Show Rating Estimate Retention DBS 0.51 654,000 N/A DBZKFC 0.39 500,000 76.47% BClover 0.29 372,000 74.36% JoJo 0.26 333,000 89.66% Gundam 0.25 321,000 96.15% Lupin 0.22 282,000 88.00% Black Clover was flat in both key demographics, and Lupin was flat in 18-34, but everything else, improved markedly, even JoJo and Gundam! 9. Oh yeah, I can't believe I didn't catch that! But I still say "Hail 2 U" is a reference to "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Prince and The Family.
  10. Thanks; now I'm gonna have to rewatch and listen for that! Edit: it seems pretty subtle, but "Hail 2 U" is the Prince Reference, right? And maybe Polnareff-Land is like Michael Jackson's "Neverland?"
  11. Oh goodness, you're right! It's only Monday (well, Tuesday morning ET), and a lot can happen between now and then, but I remember some recent times that it didn't. When GITS 2nd Gig got added to the lineup on 10/21-10/22, NONE of the shows had episode numbers on DirecTV. Considering that only Black Clover, JoJo, and Gundam IBO identify their episode number on-screen, that's a problem.
  12. That may not be the best idea with Blue Exorcist since it REALLY goes off the rails in Season 1! Like the first 15-16 episodes are all that is canonical; the rest is crazy fast-paced, but it's all filler! Season 2 pretty much picks up where the canonical portion of Season 1 left off with very little explanation, or at least it seemed that way from the one episode that I watched.
  13. Well, might not be as bad as I thought: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-friday-cable-originals-network-finals-1-19-2018.html This is for FRIDAY, but it might indicate how many slots in the Top 50 get lapped up by news organizations on Saturday. On Friday it was 17/50, roughly one-third, with 7 going to CNN, 7 going to Fox News, and 3 going to MSNBC. Compare that to a year ago, which had TWICE as many slots in the Top 50: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-friday-cable-originals-network-finals-1-20-2017.html So I don't believe the Government Shutdown is going to be as detrimental to Toonami's six premiere slots as what we witnessed the next day: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articles/showbuzzdailys-top-150-saturday-cable-originals-network-finals-1-21-2017.html Over 40% of the slots that day went to news channels. I doubt we'll see as many go there for this past weekend. I also predict all 6 premieres will make the Top 50 in 18-49, which clearly didn't happen with that lineup's 4 premieres.
  14. So this week it's Tokyo Ghoul's turn to "grace" us with its presence on the stream--well the first 5 episodes anyway. But kudos to whomever the hell at [as] programs this thing, as less than 2 weeks after "Shithole" happened, they've plugged in an episode which actually uses the word. [go figure]
  15. Exactly. That time would be sometime in 2019 I guess, but NOT now! I kinda hope the new series doesn't come out for awhile because it might be good to see what Toonami does with just Super and not both Super and Kai leading for once.
  16. Thanks for asking for us! The only reason I really wanna know is to see whether or not DBS won the night; so far, it hasn't in 2018, and that's pretty sad, but it retained 97.2%, which is a huge improvement over the previous week!
  17. http://programminginsider.com/saturday-final-nationals-patriots-blowout-win-titans-cbs-generates-least-watched-nfl-divisional-playoff-9-years/ It turns out Family Guy just edged out Dragon Ball Super on 1/13/18: Family Guy (Adult Swim, 1/13 10:00-10:30 p.m.)- 930,000 viewers- 0.38 adults 18-49 rating
  18. I have a BAD feeling about the ratings this week. Whereas last year the Trump Inauguration and fallout from that caused everyone to watch news channels, this year I believe the Government Shutdown might have the same effect. Not to mention that UFC and Bellator were a thing last night, and they're pretty popular. So it might be even uglier than usual again this week. It might be a while until we see million-plus again with this current lineup, sadly enough.
  19. Colt is Genos' VA CONFIRMED: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=135560
  20. You know, it's funny that for the final "Galactic Leyline" arc, Outlaw Star got a boost to 2 AM!
  21. This isn't the first time that term has been used in this series, nor in this season.
