they only live inside furniture... so a mattress with holes in it, an old couch, etc. i think its possible they live in walls and rugs but I'm not sure. during the night while sleep, they crawl out of the woodwork literally and suck the blood of the host. They don't live actively on the host, so to my knowledge they spread by some other means.

And try and rotate the angles you sleep at. That way they don't gang up on one part of you.
