The title of this thread is a Robert Heinlein quote that is almost always taken out of context. The full quote is, "An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life." (Robert Heinlein, Beyond This Horizon) It's a reference to dueling culture.

That said, we do not have an armed society. We have a society where some people are armed. If we had an armed society, the women in question would have drawn their own firearms in response.
