I think I can be fairly certain that there isn't a single person on these boards today that hasn't heard of her or read at least one of her books. Cleary decided to write books when she realized that most books offered to kids like her weren't all that appealing - she actually called the kids in those books pansies because they usually had nannies and pony carts.  So she started writing books about real kids who had real lives - like dealing with a dad that lost his job or annoying little sisters - along with stories about a mouse with a need for speed.
