OwlChemist81
It's that time of year again: time to predict which shows Toonami will be running ALL NIGHT on holiday weekends throughout the rest of the year! Here's my predictions: Pop Team Epic: Halloween (October 27th) Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 1: Thanksgiving (November 24th) My Hero Academia Season 2 Part 1: Christmas (December 22nd) FLCL Progressive/Alternative: New Year's (December 29th)
korosu
There is no justifiable reason for a Halloween marathon. Thanksgiving could be FLCL Progressive and Alternative if Alternative reruns at 3:30 immediately. Episode 6 would air at 3:30 that week, finishing its rerun. But, they could simply rerun all 3 series at 2:30 for the next year+. So they might not care to do that. So if not that: Thanksgiving = Attack on Titan 302-313 Christmas = FLCL Progressive / Alternative New Year's = Dragon Ball Super
Blatch
Having not had the usual Independence Day marathon this year makes me think they'll push for Halloween's to stay, even if I think that one shouldn't exist at all. Now, the list: Halloween: Black Clover Thanksgiving: Samurai Jack (S5) Christmas week: Attack on Titan New Year's week: Both FLCL sequels
OwlChemist81
You're right that there is no real reason for a Halloween marathon, but the only shows they can do that with are FLCL Progressive/Alternative and Pop Team Epic, which is what leads me to believe they might just be crazy enough to try it. AOT S3 is going to be 24 episodes. It definitely makes sense to present that as 2 12-episode cours. Even if the 13th episode is out by then, maybe it makes more sense for it to not air or to expand the night like MHA did. It might break down that the 13th episode is the end of this major story arc rather than the 12th; or that the WHOLE THING is just one BIG story arc; we really don't know. I don't think Dragon Ball Super will have another marathon on Toonami because it's gone on to bigger and better things (namely, a weeknight run). I think that one's MHA instead. I mean ..... fuckin PTE all night?? How kookie would that be? I am still trying to get over the shock that PTE is even getting the ratings it alraedy is! Their premieres are all likely to get marathons. They JUST had a MHA marathon so that has a small chance of getting another, so my choices are FLCL Alternative which will end by Thanksgiving, Aot S3, Jojo, and Dragonball Super. OwlChemist81
JoJo would be an interesting one, as it hasn't gotten any on-air marathon love in quite a while, but I'm not sure it CAN get a marathon all night starting at 10 PM. The earliest it's ever aired is midnight. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for destroyed turtles and bulldogs losing their heads in the 10 PM hour, but S&P might be a little wary of it. AOT is bloody but stylized enough and popular enough to get away with it. And I can't see DBS ever getting a marathon again since it's running on weeknights, but you never know.
korosu
the vindicators ep of rick and morty is TV-MA-LV and that's aired at 9 pm multiple times. anything goes once it's 9. speaking of 9, things have gotten interesting in terms of what the next few marathons will be. oh and titan gets its first TV-MA episode this weekend. so there goes a potential 8:30 weeknight run. But not a 9 PM weeknight run!! Or maybe reconquering mid-network isn't off the table. AOT has been such a long-term investment that it needs a weeknight run somehow. As for how the 9 PM hour will affect marathons, I'd say the new frontrunner for the Saturday before Halloween has become Black Clover. It could get the last 14 episodes blown off without mixing up the night, but Pop Team Epic and FLCL Progressive/Alternative can't do that. As for Christmas holidays, the current seasons of MHA, AOT, and JoJo will all have enough episodes out by then. But not by Thanksgiving. The weirdest thing about this whole thing is that FLCL Progressive/Alternative night is actually at a disadvantage now. But maybe they'd even try something completely insane: ALL 3 SEASONS OF FLCL IN THE SAME NIGHT!!! Of course to do that, they would have to start at 8:45 and go all the way until 6 AM... korosu
can't wait to see what 8 pm weeknights looks like next month. bringing kai back to toonami makes me think they won't also air it on weeknights. the only real spot for a TV-MA anime on weeknights is fridays at 9, which can't be filled with a fox show.
The1gairon
DB Super now airs 11 times per week.
