mochi
that super girly normal type trainer boy who was a fan favorite character they originally removed him and replaced him with this character the fat ugly Electric type trainer boy that everybody hates and literally nobody could figure out why guess they realized removing fan favorite characters and trying to convince your viewers they should like characters that they hate wasn't a winning strategy
Chapinator_X
Cause Ilima looks like he knows what he's doing. You have to start out with the fat kid that most of the audience can relate to, and then phase him out once an actually competent trainer, Ilima, comes in to take his place. It helps Ash to start out in Alola with mouth-breather friends because he can ditch them once they are no longer useful to him. Now that he knows about the Alola and its Pokemon, he gets to throw away the more disposable friends so he can associate himself with more experienced trainers like Ilima. The ultimate lesson in Pokemon is that dead-weight has to be dropped at some point, or else it will be a detriment for you. Ash picked up on the fact that in order to bump up his win quota, he has to lose the cargo that's keeping him from furthering his career goals. Not only is Ilima the only one on his level that can help him out more than the fat kid, but he's also better arm-candy, so adding Ilima to his thirsty harem will be of more use to him. Everything is working against the fat kid, and Ash knows it better than anyone else. As Magneto once said in X-Men 3: The Last Stand, "I'm sorry, my dear. You're not one of us anymore."
