mochi
as my hatred of the show has now lessened due to being informed that vegeta is still actually awesome (in his own way) I have altered the OP slightly just some pros and cons of super Pros 1. it's new Dragonball Z 2. Goku isn't portrayed as a messiah anymore and has more depth (he's more similar to the weird and snarky brat he was in classic Dragonball) 3. if you're a Vegeta fan then the good news is, due to literally everyone else being pushed aside Vegeta gets a lot more focus 4. also while rarer, Vegeta does have some moments where he gets to be awesome, he's just settled down and become nicer, so he's not the Vegeta we're..."used to" I'll put it that way 5. the animation has been corrected for the dubbed release (there were complaints about it previously) 6. it's not quite as dreadful as GT was (and personally I actually respect some of the stuff GT did so that wasn't really an issue for me, I felt they handled the jokes at Vegeta's expense better in fact) cons 1. the animation takes some adjusting to, even remastered there are times it almost resembles flash just because of the contrast between the cell animation of the old show and the digitally colored and inked art of the new show 2. due to his added involvement in the main Story, theres A LOT of jokes at vegeta's expense and while SOME of it is funny it often comes across as excessive, probably just because of the sheer amount of it, so if you're a die-hard Vegeta fan it might irk you 3. Goku is the only character so far with any "victories" to his name, several stolen from Vegeta by pushing him out of the way and delivering the final blow at the last second (the first time it was explained that he had to do it to protect Vegeta and the earth but all the other times he just did it to be a dick), Vegeta has gotten his own sort of Victories though, Basically Goku gets all the Kills, but Vegeta gets all the character development and growth 4. Similar to Teen Titans Go!, the main focus of super is comedy, not action, so do not go into it expecting it to be totally like Z in fact, basically just think of Super as a less radically different version of Teen Titans Go!, it saves time
moose
just some pros and cons of super (I am not drunk anymore so I'm trying to be less "the show shits all over Vegeta so it's bad" than I've been being) Pros 1. it's new Dragonball Z 2. Similar to Teen Titans Go!, the main focus of super is comedy, not action, so do not go into it expecting it to be like Z in fact, basically just think of Super as DBZ's version of Teen Titans Go!, it saves time A few things -- First off, the art wasn't fixed persay for the dub release, rather, it was fixed for the Japanese blu-ray releases and that's simply the version FUNi is using for their dub (which is what they usually do, besides their broadcast dubs) Second - While Super has a good deal more silly antics than DBZ (and toned down content as well) I wouldn't say it's more focused on comedy. It's rather half-half (comedy/drama). For reference, DB focused more on comedy while Z focused more on drama. And third... Teen Titans Go... really? Not at all. For example the characters are drawn the same for the most part (when Toei has their shit together) margin a few alterations while being a continuation of the DB story, while Teen Titan Go is just a crappy spin-off with a completely different aim and feel and no direct story elements to the first series other than referencing it for a cheap laugh. Don't exaggerate. Also, GT was boring. Even tho Super has problems, I vastly prefer it to GT.

Don't exaggerate. Also, GT was boring. Even tho Super has problems, I vastly prefer it to GT. I realize the art was fixed before the dub, as for the comedy aspect Super does have serious moments but only to about the same extent as GT did.....it's just a lot better than GT (and still think GT did Vegeta abuse better....Super is just better in every other aspect ASIDE from Vegeta abuse humor) and while it is not as markedly different from it's original basis show as TTG! is......there is a distinct difference from Z, as discussed Super (like GT) tries to meld Comedy and action, and while it's a subtle difference, Super does indeed have a different artstyle, the characters heads are quite a bit bigger and their muscles are more realistic (they actually look like muscles in Super, in Z they kind of looked like the characters glued baloons all over their bodies, also Vegeta has round buttcheeks in super whereas in Z he kind of had a flat box for an ass) Super has more respect for it's source Material than TTG does but both shows have similarities and lets not be blind to the fact that both shows are just a money grabbing scheme to milk more money out of an old franchise edit: I would also like to point out that, and I know it makes me sound insane.....but I actually like Teen Titans go!, so thinking of Super in terms of it being similar to TTG is making me less angry about the Vegeta abuse (the fact that they're just doing it to be funny and not to actively piss off Vegeta fans makes it okay to me)
Meilag32
Yeah, I may have been three sheets to wind when we had that argument. Still super excited. My real concern is which show I should make a thread for: Final Chapters or Super? I doubt I'd try both, that would be greedy. Unless no one else does within 10 minutes. Maybe 5. Maybe 5. yeah I looked up some non biased spoilers, and while, yes, Vegeta chickens out on Beerus and has a lot of humiliating stuff happen to him, he is still awesome in spite of this....he's basically Sokka in super, which is surprising....apperently his development in the Buu saga has rendered him a nice, sometimes almost sweet person who is aware of his limitations and accepts them but still can and will do amazing things dispite this and he genuinely will do anything to protect his family (from what I've seen the Black Goku saga is essentially the "Vegeta is the best father in the series and nobody better say otherwise" arc) basically your assesment that he is just "softer" is correct, he's still Vegeta, he's just a much nicer and gentler Vegeta
mochi
also Goku is a huge asshole in Super and in retrospect he actually started being one in the Buu saga between casually telling Krillin to kill himself (the weird thing is he actually meant this to be a compliment and it made sense in context) and offering Old Kai pornographic Photos of Vegeta's wife, in front of Vegeta (Vegeta was not happy) stupid/mean shit Goku's done since the DBZ revival/Super include 1. stole Vegeta's food without asking in Yo!, Son Goku and his friends return 2. is a very awful father (Chichi may be a tad misguided in her desire for her children not to be warriors....but her Husband's behavior may be a factor as to why she's like that), Gohan very subtly seems to view Piccolo as more of a proper father figure 3. hired a hit man to Kill him because he was bored and wanted to fight someone (when he realizes he fucked up he asks Vegeta not to tell Chichi he did this), and actually briefly got Killed(he was revived before actually dieing completely because the others found him quickly enough) he's basically a sexy version of Peter Griffin in terms of intelligence and morality in Super

Dragon Ball Z really is Toonami's Family Guy now.

mochi
So does that mean Gohan's the Meg? Goku doesn't deliberately Abuse him so no he is mostly worthless to the story though (about all he contributes is getting Videl Pregnant and creating Pan, and Pan is just a baby so she hasn't exactly done anything cool yet)

mochi
Yeah Gohan is my most disappointing aspect with Super.... he's just so lame now. yeah......thankfully I spoiled myself for all of Vegeta's moments and I'm no longer freaking out about him, he's still awesome when he needs to be, he just isn't the star
Meilag32
yeah......thankfully I spoiled myself for all of Vegeta's moments and I'm no longer freaking out about him, he's still awesome when he needs to be, he just isn't the star But he was never the star. It was Goku. Always Goku. Even when Toriyama tried to slide the spotlight to Gohan, the fans and Toei were like "Nope, not happening" and made him go back to Goku. What we need is a Dragon Ball V. A solo Vegeta show where he goes off and does his own thing, with maybe the occasional guest appearance by Goku and Co.
