Well... So much for recycling.
Commander McBelch replied to Commander McBelch's topic in Free-For-All
Once upon a time, gasoline had been considered by the big oil companies to be a useless waste product and openly dumped into rivers and lakes. Later, some genuine scientists who were not in any way beholden to the politicians found a practical use for the substance. It is now a valuable commodity that doesn't get dumped anywhere. Had the same strangling regulations been in place so long ago, we would still to this day have lakes full of gasoline and streets practically paved with horse pooty. And no, I'm not going to entertain anybody with a biased agenda who is going to base his conclusions on cherry picked or fabricated data. Those are not real scientists, regardless of title or position. -

Or communism, or socialism or anarchy or theocracies... The list goes on. What we need is government to just simply get out of the way and let the REAL scientists figure out what to do with so much trash in a responsible way. You're getting what you see now when you put politicians in charge. -

And it's still being done. -
It isn't getting recycled. It's just getting dumped, literally, on other nations. https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2018/oct/05/huge-rise-us-plastic-waste-shipments-to-poor-countries-china-ban-thailand-malaysia-vietnam

Hasn't been there in decades. Out of business because the second wave of management was just too politically correct. They quit stocking Freak Brothers comics because "They make too many references to illegal substances." When you run a head shop, you have to call it what it is. Don't pretend the three beam scales are for exotic tea.

Oh, I remember that battle. My Dad and I watched it together and he didn't quite get the idea. He was so focused on the Gorn's unusual appearance that he totally disregarded the fact that the Gorn was actually an equal to any intelligent human. "That's impossible! A mindless lizard can't be captain of ANYTHING!". Yup. That's what he said. Seriously... When you're traversing the galaxy, you're going to meet some very smart people who are different from you. Kirk did the right thing in sparing the Gorn's life.

That about sums a few things up.

When people start traveling to get away from stuff, they always bring the same stuff with them. Tobacco is here to stay and in the 24th century and beyond, there will be tobacco crops on almost every planet touched by man.

The NEWS says the California port situation is caused by a driver shortage. Not so fast: It is in part caused by a California Truck Ban which says all trucks must be 2011 or newer and a law called AB 5 which prohibits Owner Operators. Traditionally the ports have been served by Owner Operators (non union). California has now banned Owner Operators. Long term, truckers in California are not investing in new trucks because California has a law that makes them illegal in 2035. The requirement is to purchase electric trucks which do not exist. And in the words of Paul Harvey, "Now you know the rest of the story" BUSINESS CARB to begin blocking certain trucks' DMV registrations in 2020 Carriers domiciled in California with trucks older than 2011 model, or using engines manufactured before 2010, will need to meet the Board's new Truck and Bus Regulation beginning in 2020 or their vehicles will be blocked from registration with the state's DMV, the state has said. The new "health-based requirements" will need to be met before a driver is allowed to register his or her truck through the Department of Motor Vehicles, CARB says. A new enforcement tool used by the DMV beginning in 2020 will automatically block 2010 and older trucks from registration

Right, fancy walker. Four wheels, independent steering, hand brakes, built in seat and a tote basket. So, what was I supposed to do with it? I don't have a broken hip yet. I donated it to charity. Someone else might need it.
