  9. It is always warranted because it's literally everywhere. the kind of oppression being discussed has been baked into mainstream culture at just about every level. the attaks on the marginalized are so numerous nd varied that often times, they contradict each other, but that doesn't make them less valid. there is no crying wolf here. the sky is falling and is always falling at some level or another. that'll be the case until it isnt the case ny longer and we're a good hundred years away from that. again, it' not about how many of the brown people are pure evil. the separating of the happy, upright world full of white people and the shadowy, underworld full of brown/dark people is indicative itself of the problem being discussed. people think of racism and bigotry only as a series of direct actions, but more thn that, it's passive assumptions and depictions that have been perpetuated so long that unaffected people see them as the default. it doesn't have to have "thought behind it" to be a proble, but until those depictions no longer come so easily, it is necessary tht a lot of thought be put into erasing them. sexism isn't based on how many women like something. internalized sexism (like internalized racism) is a serious problem and makes up huge chunk of what's wrong. SAO definitely is sexist. it' called queercoding, my dude. the number of character meant to represent gay people or so-called "gay tendencies" is much higher than the number of characters who hve been officially assigned LGBT status. but those posessing identitiies or mannerismsms that lean toward steroptypical gay behavior are consistently shown as being punished by the world for being that way. they get killed off prematurely, they don't get happy endings, or they "just happen" to be vilains who get punished. it's everywhere, if you understand what to look for. a couple token gay chracters who get to be heroes is i mean, it's something, i guess, but it's not enough. certainly not enough that people should be satisfied with it. unless most of what mochi posts runs outside of weekly toonami episode discussions, i've seen them and he's usually right. people always get up in arms like we're asking them to shit themseles on the spot or double over in tears when these points are brought up. all you've gotta do is say "yeah, i noticed that, too" or "ah, that didn't occur to me" no one's asking you to upend your identity when problems are called out. just quit acting like the problem isn't there. that' literally all you gotta do and things will strt to get better.
