People are crazy and that's okay.

Had an encounter with a religious bigot today while busking. He was friendly enough and definitely talked too much but that's not somethin' I'm gonna judge someone for, right? Then he starts getting insistent on on the whole doctrine rhetoric; "No, it's not okay for you to have compassion for all people; only Christian people. You can't just sit there singing your silly songs being better than me at spreading positivity with out doing it to spread Christianity." He didn't say that, but it was the gist of what he was implying. Having a religion is a lot like having a penis; it's okay to have one and it's okay to be proud of it, but it's not okay to shove it down other people's throats without their asking for it.

All that being said, not all Christian people are hypocrites like the guy I had to deal with this morning. Some of them get that if we're all God's children, kindness must be dispersed to all. I don't want to see a completely homogenized world where everyone thinks like hippie-nerds any more than I want to see it homogenized by any other tradition. If everyone thought exactly the same way and a problem came along which that frame of reference did not have an answer for, we'd all be pretty screwed. It will always be important for people to think differently, and to extend trust to people who think differently.

I didn't know how to trust that one guy, and that's okay. There are nearly eight billion people in the world and I know how to pick my battles. That one guy did too, because he never stated outright the ways he disapproved of me; he knew he couldn't get away with it because this world doesn't work the way he wants it to. Public opinion is a bitch. lol

religion sucks.

eh, it used to suck a lot more. Too much anti-bigotry rhetoric floating around in the world at large to use religion as a justification for shady shit on a large scale. These days that task is left to the almighty dollar alone. Religion in the world today is basically a vestigial practice left over from more primitive times. Like an old school vampire; you're fine as long as you don't invite him into your house...
