Meilag32
If you're a Godzilla fan, you undoubtedly know that Shin Godzilla was released on Blu-ray back on August 1st (in addition to it's limited run theatrical released back in October 2016). It's definitely more of a suspense film, more than any other Gojira film. I have to subtract points due to the non-Godzilla scenes being all about the futility of government bureaucracy. Not that America can't relate, but you don't need to beat it into our skulls for almost 2 hours. But the scenes featuring Godzilla were great. The transforming Godzilla and the true spoiler: At the end of the film, they "freeze" him with blood coagulants, but a zoom-in of his tail reveals that G-humanoids (humans with Godzilla dorsal fins and tails) were emerging from the tail were in the process of happening. My biggest praise was for the sound. Much of the music and sound effects were culled from the Showa series. Godzilla's roar, footsteps, as well as much of the soundtrack was taken from the Showa series.
Gyaos
Ironically, this film was more polarizing among American fans than Legendary's attempt, which everyone hoped would be properly executed. I went to Kentucky to see this film in a full house and enjoyed it a lot. A lot of punches were thrown that I never expected, and Anno's wit never ceases to amaze me. I'm hoping that the anime film coming in November is just as potent.
Meilag32
I'm just wondering if I built Shin Godzilla up so much that no matter what the film was, it wouldn't meet my ridiculous expectations. It was the first new Japanese Godzilla film I'd seen since Final Wars back in 2004. But again, Godzilla was epic in it.
