  1. Called her a hideous hag! What an asshole!
  2. LOL I knew it wouldn't something that serious.
  3. I had re-watched episode 38 recently. The title was 3 leaf salute. Yami salutes the Wizard King, which is something he doesn't do often apparently. I had no idea that weird salute was meant to be three leaves of a clover this whole time.
  4. Remember they made a change of policy and started airing NON-ACTION shows a while ago. Like Pop Team Epic and Food Wars. I think this show counts as action though.
  5. You talk about ham-fisted writing in Black Clover before (which is intentional, and One Piece isn't exactly subtle, either,) but the Gundam franchise in general is ham-fisted with its anti-war message, and comes off as pretentious. Then you have cliche tropes like people from opposite sides of the war falling in love. Amuro and Banagher being crybaby bitches. Most characters are either bitches or scumbags, so why would I care if any of them die or whole cities or colonies get wiped out? War is bad. We all know that. But lets keep making series after series about it so we can sell more action figures and model kits. G Gundam was fun because it was over-the-top, silly, and cartoonish. There was a Gundam with a sombrero and another one with a windmill. And who can get BURNING FINGER! The first season, at least, of IBO, wasn't too bad, because the protagonist isn't a bitch. The second season is horrible because of characters being dumb and falling for obvious tricks, forced deaths, characters being gunned down by goons instead of dying in well done battles, and the ending. I would rather watch any Robetech series over Gundam any day of the week. But Black Clover seems to be making fun of the tropes, and itself, at times. If that's not parody, it's pretty close. Why would the writers put in an obnoxious scene just for the sake of it? Rivals get into arguments in other shonens, but not in such a childish, simplistic way like that. It definitely comes off as making fun of the trope, if not parody. I have a photographic, elephantine memory. I'm especially going to remember when someone says something as asinine as that. I wasn't sure if it was in this forum or ASMB, but I did a search and it was here, and the post was still here. You still defended Ivankov as being portrayed well, and I just told you why he wasn't. Sorry I didn't get back to the thread sooner. Plans just didn't work out like I'd hoped, heh. I'll also consciously choose not to go on forums or social media etc if I'm tired, and/or might be in a bad mood, so I don't get fed up with people and possibly say something nasty. I used to just quote multiple posts in a single reply, since I used to not like multi-posting, either. But, isn't that even more unreadable than separate posts? I think separate posts are cleaner and easier to read and potentially reply to than one post quoting and replying to multiple people. It's not minutia. If there is something I want to respond to, I'm going to respond to it, especially if the person was replying to me or referring to me. You did not read what I said correctly. I was referring to the okamas introduced earlier in the series, not the ones you talked about in the spoiler part of the post, which I said didn't sound bad. If you're trying to say those earlier okamas are decent representations, then you really don't know any better, regardless of being queer. Or you just can't stand to admit a series and author you like would do such a thing. Of course, there is also the whole concept some people have, that if a movie, tv show, etc had something insensitive or possibly even bigoted in it, it is wholly abhorrent and must be disregarded. It has to be banished and the people involved in its creation fired and canceled, or at the very least given a disclaimer. But no one is going to do that to a fanboy favorite like One Piece, are they? They won't even drop the series. Not to mention they are unlikely to have success against such a target, given it's Japanese. Self-aware, and also making fun of the tropes, and the show makes fun of itself to an extent. Asta saying "not using magic is my whole identity," is a prime example of the show making fun of itself. Does it have to be referencing and making fun of something from a specific series and not making fun of general concepts and tropes to be considered a parody? I didn't think that was the case. I granted that some Mary Sues probably exist. Maybe Yugi or Alucard? Yugi will always have some random card that we never saw before that is perfectly suited to the current situation, and almost never loses. Alucard is OP as fuck and has only one major weakness, which is contrived and never explained why or how that catboy has his weakness. He has his weakness because he does. But no one cares because both Yugi and Alucard are fun to watch. People called Kirito a Mary Sue because he put a computer together and got good at videogames by playing them a lot and level-grinding. Really? Especially when computers are like fucking Legos these days. It wouldn't have been hard at all for Kirito build a computer. The stuff he is "unrealistically" good at is base level nerdy shut-in gamer stuff. There you go again treading MAL as some ultimate authority. Ok lol. I would have to ask the author, or someone else would. No way to know for sure unless the author could confirm one way or another. I still think, even if not outright parody, the show is not trying to be 100% serious a lot of the time and is definitely self-aware of the tropes, making fun of them, and itself. See at least you are more admitting to what the show is doing. Black Clover is doing all that stuff, but other people will just say it's a dumb show. Bobobo is definitely a parody. So was Duel Masters. That may have been gag dub, though.
  6. Well, if a bunch of the students leave Class E or it's disbanded, the whole setup falls apart.
  7. Evil societal manipulator principal! LOL at that image of how the confrontation supposedly went down.
  8. Lots of clever counters, big twists and reveals, and yet another evil cliffhanger! I'm going to have to re-watch this though, since I got distracted.
  9. Uh, can we have actual proof of this? There, I posted the actual link with embed -
  10. Is it really a "mistake" just because the episodes are called "pages?" I believe the manga chapters are called "pages," too, even though leaving them as "chapters" would still work for the whole gromoire/book thing. And it causes issues for searches too, since obviously manga Page 136 won't be the same as anime Page 136. Although, it looks like CountFrylock used fan art for the OP banner, and not manga, anime, or official art, which we tend to like to do. But it's ok, and not a bad picture, which I haven't seen before. I have added it to my collection lol. At least someone made a thread!
  11. Yup I saw it just in time because I was about to make one haha.
  12. Well at least someone made a thread for Burn the Witch, but I can't believe not until now! You can spruce up the OP if you want, or not. Either way is fine with me. Saves me the time of making the OP. It's funny you made this thread right as I was about to. I'm glad it went up when it did though or otherwise I'd have made an elaborate OP for nothing. I wrote down my thoughts after watching it the other night and here they are - I don't like that this is a Crunchyroll exclusive. I'm not going to get a streaming service just for one show, especially when my anime needs are already pretty well covered by Funimation Now, Hulu, and Netflix. Enough is enough at some point. They shouldn't have done this. And it doesn't bode well for the show getting on Toonami. Demarco could get left out in the cold. And possibly some fans as well. And I really hope this doesn't happen with Bleach's final arc. That 72% of deaths being caused by dragons figure really doesn't make any sense. I think Kubo is not good with numbers or scale at all. I remember reading the height and weight of the Bleach characters. Kenpachi is way too light for his height and would be fucking anorexic if he actually weighed what Kubo said. I don't think his intention was that souls weigh less than physical bodies, either. Maybe this is because there are so few people that tall in Japan, or, as I said, Kubo is justbterrible with math. But, I think I can pretty easily ignore the silly 72% thing and just enjoy the rest of the series for what it is. Just something I wanted to point out. This is really beautiful art and animation. I love how this world is. Colorful, detailed, and charming. The creature and character designs are varied and cool. It's like a combination of Ghibli and Kubo. Some good world building. The concept of the Reverse London, dragons, witches and wizards, the emergency procedures and containment zones. It is a really cool world. I just don't see how it can be connected to the Bleach world at all or how anything in either series has any bearing on the other. Surely Hollows and whatnot are not an issue unique to Japan? Are there Soul Reapers going around taking care of Hollows in London while the witches and wizards are taking care of dragons? Why couldn't this be a totally a separate universe with nothing to do with Bleach? It doesn't need to be a spin-off. It can stand on its own. It is a very unique and creative world too. The first episode is called "witches blow a new pipe?" Really? The show has been very organic with its explanations. Even after the first 3 episodes, we do not a lot of what is going on or how things work. There is no narrator giving us the rundown or characters explaining how things work that would already know. We'll probably learn things as Macy does, maybe Balgo to an extent. And what is with these names? I guess Kubo wanted to give the characters more fantasy-like and whimsical names, to go with the world. Did he base these names off architects like he did with the weird Espada names? I wonder if some of them are code names, especially the captains or whatever they're called. A lot of the names used alliteration and one guy was named after a fucking trumpet. There's no way these can be their real names. I like Noel and Ninny and they play well off each other. They had some really funny interactions. I like how cold Noel was at times. "You were rescued as a result of my actions." Hahaha. I didn't expect Ninny to be a secret pop star from a girl group. She really does look different with her hair in pig tails and the separate outfits. Man, escort missions are the worst! I wonder what it means when a dragon goes lights out. It survived without its head and turned all black and went on rampage! Dragon insurance LOL. I wonder if Kubo and/or this series will catch flak for having a perverted character like Balgo in the series in current times. Granted he is super tame compared to other pervy characters, like how Kon was. Of course, his behavior was considered wrong and he is rightly admonished and beaten up and chased by the others for his actions. Is that doggie dragon he has like a parrot and repeats the pervy stuff he says? And when he said the thing about accidentally grabbing Noel's boobs when he was riding with her. Did he say that all out loud? You're not supposed to say that stuff out loud dude! One is doing it for merit and the other for money. But their boss wishes they had said the thing about doing it for society first. Macy calling Noel a balloon-titted spanking. Noel's face when Macy was crying and carrying on was priceless! Hmm I wonder what will come of that horn/gun Balgo had turning into a knife. Of course there are some sort of captains and governing body, and of course some of them are corrupt assholes, haha. I really hate that Bangnyfe bunghole. He is well, *ahem* corrupt law enforcement of sorts. I hope he doesn't get away with his BS so easily just because he called off the death mark on Balgo. Although there were some points I wouldn't have been sad if he died lmao. But, Bangnyfe was willing to kill his fellow witches because they pissed him off and got in his way. He put the death mark on Balgo and tried to frame him with false charges. Even going so far as to instigate an attack on a tabloid (though at least no one was there at the time.) Guy is still a scumbag. Ninny said Fairy Tales are bullshit. I was hoping Elly could be brought back under control and be Macy's dragon partner, but it wasn't to be, and they had no choice but to take her down. Like Ninny said Fairy Tales are bullshit. And well Elly is supposedly some kind of doomsday dragon. But I don't get why the other dragons need to be "conserved" like this is a wildlife refuge? I guess Wing Bind are conservation-minded? And yeah you guys should be the one casting those spells. And their boss is secretly a badass! Playing dumb all this time like Isshin! But booo at Bangnyfe getting the credit! Uhh I don't think people would be bowing in London, Kubo. I swore that Squire person was a guy, but I guess not. So, over here the movie is split into 4 episodes. The way this was structured seems to work perfect as episodes, though. But 3 episodes were released all at once? Will they animate the rest of the series or is this it? Or will the 4th episode cover the whole manga? But I think I heard something about this was a shorter manga and Kubo already finished it and is at home playing Animal Crossing, but the chapters will still just be released one at a time? I don't know, it's confusing. But just from what I saw so far, I know I definitely want more.
  13. Ep 1 - I can't believe no one made a thread for this or Burn the Witch! Sprucing up of the OP will have to wait until later. My computer will have an aneurysm and I will miss part of Toonami fighting with it to go around getting the stuff I want to put the post together. And yes I am about to get a new computer finally. It is a very careful selection process, a big and expensive decision to make. Man, that OP, it's very vague and you can't derive anything from it at all! Only thing I could glean was the stars in one of Towa's eyes. She potentially could use the Meido? So, this episode really wasn't an episode of Yasha-Hime. It was an episode of InuYasha. We only got a tease of the new characters and state of the world as it currently sits. But it was still nice to have one more adventure with the original Yasha Gang. I like the part where Miroku said "this gives a nostalgic feeling," after Kagome used the Sit command on Inuyasha. Of course, the whole episode was nostalgic. I love that they kept the same look of the old series and original score, and I believe all the original VAs were back. I'm glad we finally have names for Sango and Miroku's children. You know Rumiko Takahashi never even gave names to Kagome's 3 school friends? The anime did that. I did think it was funny we got captions telling us who everyone else was, as if we could ever forget, but then if someone had never seen InuYasha before, they would have no idea what all these attacks were. And I gotta say I have a hard time remembering some of them as well myself, haha. I thought it was funny Miroku was introduced as "delinquent Monk." I guess Inuyasha and Kagome are still going to have arguments here and there, heh. When Sango gave Hisui to Kohaku and he was like WAIT WHAT. Shippo being tortured by Sango and Miroku's daughters haha. (Yeah their names were too weird for me to remember. It didn't help how the caption text popped up at the same time as dialogue and made it hard to read everything fast enough.) I don't know why the whole thing of changing the past came up. That really did not seem to be a thing at all before. Kagome ran around with her bicycle, dressed in modern clothes, brought Inuyasha ramen, etc. And I can't remember too many instances of a time travel mechanic being used, either, something being done in the past and it affects the future. It was more traveling between worlds. So, the show just started and Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha are already reunited. So that means that won't be the main plot of the show. Unless the rest or a good chunk is a flashback arc, which I don't see being the case. That makes me wonder what the plot WILL be, then. And yep, Moroha is just like Inuyasha and Sentsuna is just like Sesshomaru. I wonder if Kaede being on the poster is from this flashback. There's no way she is still alive and looks exactly the same right now, right?
  14. https://www.viz.com/blog/posts/yashahime-princess-half-demon-arrives-in-october Yasha-Hime is finally here! You can stream it on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu! https://www.viz.com/blog/posts/stream-yashahime-on-crunchyroll-funimation-and-hulu
  15. Oh, I found where that captain's meeting I was talking about happens. It's around the 15:50 mark of episode 38! Classic! Though I think there are other funny parts before that too. Like when Asta loses an eating contest where no magic is allowed to Charmy, and says "but not using magic is my whole identity.
  16. I was using it as an example of what goes on in the show, and what Yami does in the show. He exemplifies the parody aspect almost more than anyone else because he is practically on a fourth wall level at times with the way he acts. Other shows' characters wouldn't blatantly ask someone they suspected of being a villain in disguise outright like that. But Yami is no nonsense and doesn't give a fuck. Then Yami will mercilessly make fun of and mock other characters who are the epitome of their character types we would see in other shonen. He is basically making fun of the character types and tropes himself. You have all these characters set up as the ultimate representation of their character type. Nozel is the ultimate serious "cool" character. Yami makes fun of his hair and how he acts etc. Yami has also commented on various situations that have happened in the show, typical of shonens, pointed out how stupid the situation was or made fun of it etc. It wasn't even Yami doing it, but in the last episode some of the Black Bulls characters were ripping on Fuegolion about how serious and by the books he is, the total opposite of Yami, they said. And we see Fuegolion lecturing his men on the proper way to use a hot spring, almost like it is a surgical procedure.
  17. It was fucking hilarious actually. They thought Vangeance was Licht in disguise, and Licht uses light magic, so Yami just straight up asks Licht if he uses light magic out of nowhere in the midst of that meeting. Yami just doesn't give a fuck. No other show would do that.
  18. Wow, you sure are giving Black Clover a lot of credit there even if you don't want to admit it's a parody. But I'm not sure you should be part of this discussion since you dropped the series fairly early on? Or did you even watch it at all? I can give more examples, some stuff I think is pretty obvious and hard to deny. Early on Asta is introduced as this loud, excitable, over the top guy. People complained about how he acted. Then he goes into the Black Bulls hideout for the first time and everyone else is yelling and horsing around and none of them hear him or notice he's there. He has to REALLY yell to get their attention. Asta finally met some people who were just as much or more loud and boisterous as he is. I think the purpose and intent was pretty clear here. In the most recent episode we had a scene like we have seen before. Asta and Leopold were arguing about who would be the strongest. They just kept saying one was going to get stronger than the other over and over, like children. If that isn't meant to be a parody of shonen rivalries, I'm not sure what is.
  19. Are you serious? They were awful then. If someone was ignorant and didn't know any better they would think these were decent representations. And besides how awful they look and the way they act at times, they do some pretty fucked up and demented shit, like endlessly chasing and harassing Sanji to "convert" him, or Ivankov forcefully changing people's genders to punish them. Won't click because I may get back to it at some point. But I doubt Oda would drastically overhaul the character designs of some of these guys. Although some characters really have morphed over the years, and time skips can excuse this further. Of course he could just... not use them again, and instead use these new characters you mention. Of course, Oda has a penchant for bringing back characters, even the ones nobody cared about. "Hey, remember this guy! He's back in a way you would never expect at the moment you least expect!!!" Eh. Oda would have to resist doing that. Bon Clay didn't look too terrible. And it was never outright stated that he was gay, until he came back hundreds of episodes later and Ivankov and the others were introduced. Then they looked horrible and the other unfortunate aspects I mentioned were brought in to the story. An unfortunate blemish on the series. Edit - Ended up clicking anyway. Curiosity got the best of me. That doesn't sound bad. But what I said about those earlier characters still stands. Oda would have to stop using them or drastically overhaul them.
  20. I have seen the past other horrible "classic" Gundam shows and I'm well acquainted with the universe. The anime "tastemakers" can say what they want, Gundam Unicorn is still an insufferable series with insufferable characters. In fact, almost every Gundam series, or mecha in general, the protagonist is a crybaby bitch? Then other characters are assholes or unlikable in other ways. Why do people like these crappy shows? The only Gundam shows worth a damn are G Gundam and Iron Blooded Orphans. Then IBO completely fell off a cliff in the second season. Oh yes you did - I could completely understand people having a problem with the random okama in the series, since despite being portrayed as good guys they do pile on that particular stereotype incredibly heavily, but for my money Ivankov is a downright progressive character. They (I feel justified going with gender-neutrals here) don't really give a damn about gender in the least, switching between both at a whim, and gives an equal lack of shits about how anyone views them. They're all about absolute personal freedom. Yeah god forbid I have better things to do than argue with Yahoos every day. That is a great movie, by the way. Great version of Gulliver's Travels. You should watch it some time, if you haven't seen it already. Much better time spent then watching Gundam! This guy has part 1 and part 2 on Youtube. Not sure where else you can watch it. Only one DVD left on Amazon for $500!? Looks like you can get it on Roku, Sling, Amazon Prime, or iTunes. Why can't we just we buy a DVD, blu-ray, or stream it, damn it?! And why is it tied in with Hallmark?! It should be on Peacock, damn it! It originally came on NBC! But maybe I should start coming back more often again. =3
  21. Aren't some of them famous people too? Or were those just memes? I know Amored Titan was based on Brock Lesnar.
  22. I saw him too. Wasn't sure if he was new or not.
  23. They played it at least 3 times tonight haha. Yeah was her. I didn't think we saw her yet. Good so that means Toonami has the episodes already to be able to make that video using clips from the second season.
  24. Were some of the clips used in that new Toonami video new? I don't remember seeing the pink haired girl in Fire Force yet. Or that huge Infernal or whatever that was. Does this mean Toonami already has the season 2 tapes?
