2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences
Belize replied to NewBluntsworth's topic in Current Events
If anything, I am going left as I age. It's hard to explain why. I feel like I started out bipartisan and tolerant of all political ideologies, but then a moral sense was triggered. And I was like "you people on the right side of the spectrum are obviously evil; I'm getting away from you as fast as I can". -

Is this what it's like to be old? I kind of hate it. -

Another thing I enjoy: how a bunch of people on social media are making super-confident pronouncements about the meaning of the election when it's obvious they have experienced like one other election in their entire adulthood. Young and dumb, in other words. Stuff is being said like, "whoa, did you know Democrats won like every swing Senate seat in 2006? That's crazy!" "Did you know all the polls said Obama was going to win the New Hampshire primary, but then Clinton did?!" -
I enjoy how people talk about Trump's appointments like they are not eventually going to be betrayed by the man they willingly chose to work for.

Here's an idea. Suddenly this is less "flight from something horrible" and more of a positive life experience. Even if I do this, I would try to avoid coming back to the US as much a possible because I hate this place. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_nomad

2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences

There is still an avalanche of dumb takes going around about why Dems lost. It's literally something like: "The point where Harris lost was [insert my pet project issue]." That's like all of the completely unbelievable conclusions so far. -

Well, it's one directional. I've got nothing against you. I kind of like your posting style in fact. -

I feel like I'm rubbing you the wrong way. It's not intentional on my part. I was thinking about replying to your previous post with a statement like "I have no reason to doubt what you say about African-American males. I don't have the same experiences as they do, so it's likely there is some thing I don't know". -

You think if you conducted a survey and asked the question, "Who is the Vice President?" more than 10% would know the answer? How about the question, "What Democratic candidates lost the 2020 Democratic primaries?" -
Because economics isn't the only factor. Why would live around the people who willingly want a tyrant to rule over them?

Quick math on this, because I've never quantified it before in my mind. Also without giving out too much personal information. I estimate my income now is a little more than double what it was in the pre-pandemic year of 2019. For someone who grew up poor, it feels good to be middle class.

That second statement is nonsense due to Americans' ignorance. They didn't know who Kamala Harris was until July 2024, so how could they have had an animus towards her since 2019? Whoever wrote that statement is just pretending they know something. -
I've mentioned on these boards before how I recently achieved my goal of being able to order any meal at a restaurant without ever checking the price. I know that's a trite marker of financial health, but I've always used it. To my surprise, I actually reached that goal in the last four years. I barely noticed any inflation because income outpaced it.

The Biden administration has been really good for me economically. I fell into that sweet spot were my income increased exponentially in the last four years. I feel I am in a decent spot to weather any economic calamity that may occur. *knock on wood*. I hope Trump voters face consequences though.

Interesting generational idea below. If true, I really like being a millennial. I mean, I liked it a lot anyway but this would make it even better. @Insipid -

In terms of people younger than me, I think I have that attitude of "you idiot kid; you have no idea what you want or what's going on; you'll eventually learn". And yes, that is pretty dismissive. It's supposed to be. I'm open to thoughts about why I am wrong though. -

I think it's safe and smart to tune out the idiots who say this. -
Learning something in this context isn't important because 90% of the thoughts people are forming in the aftermath of a loss is bullshit. Anyone confidently saying "this is why Dems lost and this is what we need to do" can be ignored.

The majority of Americans are going to hate Trump again in like 3 months.

Maybe Trump will die on the toilet.

Don't use the word "cope" like that ever. It makes you a non-credible person. -

I maintain that if no one ever acknowledged her posts, like ever, it would be hilarious. Every time we scroll past one, it would be a chuckle.
