So, as someone who works for Head Start, this is kind of a direct threat.

Don't know what it is with Republicans and libertarians/conservatives/capitalism-is-god people that makes them believe that money spend on government jobs or jobs funded my government grants just evaporates into the air. Stupid, I guess.

The Trump administration is asking Congress to eliminate funding for Head Start, a move that would cut early education for more than half a million of the nation’s neediest children and child care for their families.

The proposal is tucked in a 64-page internal draft budget document obtained by The Associated Press that seeks deep cuts at the Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees Head Start. It is still in a highly preliminary phase as the White House prepares to send Congress its budget request for the 2026 fiscal year.

“The budget does not fund Head Start,” according to the draft. It says eliminating the program is consistent with the Trump administration’s “goals of returning control of education to the states and increasing parental control.”

“The federal government should not be in the business of mandating curriculum, locations, and performance standards for any form of education,” the document says.

Also on the chopping block:

A program that helps low-income households with their energy bills would be eliminated under President Donald Trump’s proposed fiscal 2026 budget.

A draft budget document obtained by Bloomberg Government recommends no funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which protects the health and well-being of approximately 6 million families who can’t afford heating and cooling expenses.

LIHEAP is a popular aid program among congressional Republicans and Democrats, particularly in states like Maine and Alaska.

This is why I choke anytime I hear the term right-wing populism. It's just a total oxymoron.

Even at Head Start, I've seen people who've supported him and still believe he's looking out for them. It's either "he has a plan" or "he just doesn't know what's going on yet." The dude just does not care. He believes he's in a movie centered around him and we're all just extras. He doesn't see a homeless person and thing about "why are they there and what could help them get off the street," instead he sees something unpleasant to look at and wants it out of his view like litter in the gutter.

It's like, he doesn't see poor kids and families as people, he sees them as objects the people closest to him detest and are forced to help against their will. Thanks to Fox News and the rightwing media, the underclass see themselves the way he sees them.
