some updates to boards begin around Sunday.  there'll be some float and guideline overhauls and folder structure alterations afoot.

am working on board profiles and permissions such that it could cause very brief periods of various features disappearing, though this should only last about a minute if that and I think most of the big stuff is done, so it shouldn't happen any more.  but since it happened once today, figured I should post and give people a heads up.

the new stuff is set up.  I was pretty thorough, but there's still a lot of crap to click/check/consolidate etc (permissions are in like 80 different places for the same stuff, it's crazy).

 

basically new users should be able to access and post in the Introductions area and Free For All boards no matter what.

 

Guests (people not logged in) should be able to access and post on the Password Recovery board no matter what.

 

All users have a set of invisible ranks for each section of the board.  New users have to be assigned those.  so as soon as we get that, they should be good to go for posting everywhere.

 

if you find that your buttons have disappeared to post/reply to threads, or post new threads, or you can't access parts of the board you'd like to, let me know and I should be able to fix it in a minute or so of reading/seeing the PM.

general update:

 

trying to get some personal stuff sorted out, including job stuff, etc.  don't have time for news/updates til I get that taken care of.  Once that is all back on track, will start posting daily news etc again.

 

we are looking at june-August range for new server.  we are also looking at a software upgrade.  we have some donations that will be going toward one or the other of those things (or maybe a little to both).

we just got started on the IPB.  So far we've had a server derailment and a probably super minor issue that's sticking in my craw about a stray amazon tracking IP thing, which is super minor but for some reason it pisses me off way more than it should.

 

the admin cp seems well laid out and easily navigated.  so that's good.  There are a few very basic things I need to figure out still.  Also I have to toss up a temporary structure for volunteers to play in and get to know the software.  Not sure how long it'll take.  I work every damn day this week.

 

so things are moving slowly, as expected.  nothing's ever as easy as it oughta be.
