It very well could have been that a the price for Tokyo Ghoul dropped and Toonami picked it up at a steal this year
A third reason I just came up with
- One Piece leaving was clearly not the Toonami crew's decision and it appeared to be out of their control. This, and the two-weeks notice only asserts this guess. So they only had a few weeks to get a new show they NEVER really considering getting, from the ground up. Similar situation with the Samurai Champloo reruns to replace their intended acquisition of Lupin III: A Woman Named Fujiko Mine.

>gundam unicorn before hxh
for what purpose
tg is 2 years too late at this point, but good on them to replace op with it.
People thought Soul Eater was two years too late and THAT performed- wait a minute no that's not true. NO ONE ever cared about Soul Eater than me. ;_;
-
they didn't care about granting the faithful's wishes when they passed on Sailor Moon
Because they only have so many slots to fill with a limited # of days per year and maybe other circumstances that we viewers aren't aware of perspired that prevented them from getting it?

I think I'm gonna make it a habit to not comment on show-themed threads for shows that have massive backlash toward them. Maybe i should not comment live during the block when Toyko Ghoul is on. .... in fact, his is something I should've done in the old boards for SAO and SAO II. Maybe it would've saved me from quitting 3 times.

Naruto speaking to Gon: "Is this your first day at 2AM? Welcome to Hell."
This deal just keeps getting worse and worse.
I saw this coming but I wanted to believe they wouldn't hose Hunter in less than a year.
If this was inevitable why did they even bother picking up Hunter? How can a dub premiere of a 148 episode series succeed at 2AM much less behind a niche show like Gundam? Ugh... People will say "you should just be happy that it's airing at all" and I am happy about that but I'm not the least bit happy that within less than a year of it starting they have already buried it to a slot it will only escape via completion, moving to 2:30 or getting pulled of the air. The only chance it has of airing earlier is if the whole block shifts earlier. What a crock of shit for Hunter x Hunter.
At least JoJo doesn't move. That either says it's actually doing well enough or they just plan on replacing within about a month when it's season ends. Might be a combination of the two.
One more good thing from this: I can now go to bed at 2:30 AM instead of 3 AM, because I always skip Naruto.

I still don't know why they wanted this show. The show would have been better if they had stayed true to the manga.
So many other shows that could have been grabbed.
Reasons I can guess for why it's Tokyo Ghoul
- it's been one of the consistently requested Toonami shows for a few years now and i suppose they wanted to grant yet more of the Faithful's wishes
- maybe it wasn't the most expensive shows they could get, so it was easy to pay for it
-
Maybe, maybe not. It's pretty possible they aren't quite sure. This isn't a good problem to have. They have a new show that needs a decent timeslot, which means something is moving down. Depending on what's coming next, they may not want to push down Jojo or Gundam, but do they really want to put HXH at 2am? As the next resident long runner, I can see the logic with putting it with Shippuden. But it's a decently performing dub premere that is about to get really good and deserves a wide audience. It's like deciding which of your children goes without dinner!
Yeah.........why Jojo? Why does Jojo out of the other new premieres they're running get to stay in its timeslot?? What is their reasoning behind that?

Hunter x Hunter fans, it finally happened. After rising to 12:30 once upon a time for some of the Hunter Exam arc in June and July, Hunter x Hunter has apparently fallen to 2 AM for the Yorknew arc.
Meanwhile, Gundam Unicorn seems to have fallen to 1:30 but that's not really a major loss, even if its later OVA volumes are a bit harder to find.
Most surprising is that JoJo, with its low retention average rate of 79.5% in 2017, gets to hang onto 12:30, while two shows that retained 89.7% and 91.7% respectively on average look to be falling back 30 minutes. That may indicate something better coming soon to that timeslot, but hopefully whatever it is works well with Tokyo Ghoul if it isn't more JoJo.
DISCLAIMER: This is a reputable TV Schedule site but it is NOT official and so this is still subject to change.
HxH moving late at night was expected. Because this has always been how the Toonami crew shifts the block when a new show comes that is expected to be a hit. Thing is, I would not even bat an eye over this if it wasn't fuckin Hunter X Fuckin Hunter, which should totally deserve more! >:

Technically, the 8:00P counts as the premiere, so only that one is listed in the cart. We'll get it with the Programming Insider list, which will also have that preceding hour of Family Guy which I think will do more to tell us how the night did.
Here's the way I see it: If the Griffins were strong, that would indicate a lot of casual viewers stayed for Jack but quite a few of them left afterwards, which would not be a very good pattern for the schedule if it continues; if they did weak, it would indicate a bad week in general that only got a boost thanks to the new show, which would certainly make me feel better about it and further prove its strength on the night.
It sucks that our momentum depends on a poorly-animated dyfunctional family.

Well, would you look at the time...
Samurai Jack debuted to 1,552,000 viewers... but DBZ Kai couldn't even break a million? What's up with that?
... where is DB Super at 11:30 ????

I'm kind of on a Black Widow kick.
-
no because it is, it just had a tarnished reputation in this country
I've told you this many times, just because YOU personally dislike something does not make it bad
terrible writing, unlikeable characters, and marysue characters make something bad (**cough** SAO **cough**)
you aren't god Jman, your personal opinions are not gospel
Do we have reports how how the OP ratings in Japan are doing now?
-
I just noticed something slightly funny about Disney
's broadcast of Pokemon
the entire opening is darkened and slowed down.....apparently Disney is holding the Seizure incident from the 90's against them to an extent that even Warner Bros. never did, despite the fact that Shopro already took measures to prevent triggering any Seizures again (namely doing away with strobe effects forever as of the Gen 3 anime)
R you sure they slowed it down because of the seizures that happened eons ago? Japan has a restrictive rule in broadcasting that anything that is too bright on-screen has to be dimmed down in lightness. You see it in anime openings, and action sequences all the time now.

No; Florida, believe it or not.
Also, delays confirmed to continue with no end in sight.

The f. So if it wasn't Stella, what was it!?
-
Disney has a show coming out that has both a Gay character and the WHOLE plot of the show focuses around Teen pregnancy...so I don't think Lesbians would be a deal breaker for any shows they might license
Which show is this?
-
If he becomes a main character, I won't drop this.
..... then better get movin to another anime...

So, if you're looking for the numbers for the new Samurai Jack episode... well, you might be waiting a bit longer than usual. Apparently, there was a power outage at the place where they collect the data, and they need time to fire it up before they can actually get the hard numbers. The numbers for Saturday and Sunday on the networks haven't come in yet, so I assume the cable ratings won't come in until after those are done.
How awkward is it happens now of all weeks? Either way, I'm sure you'll live.
Let me guess. They're stationed in the Northeast aren't they.
-
doesn't really matter i have no real urge to watch them with Super being fresh and new
I'll watch it for awhile but unlike with super there's no rush....hell The Start of super basically spoils DBZ Kai FC so there's no real need to watch and see what happens
I'm starting to realize you're speaking out of your emotions.
-
because really what's there to watch after Jojo Leaves?
... all the shows that remain??
They realize people can just watch most of what they air online any time they want!! They know they're no competition for that! So they decide they won't even compete, and let people tune in if they want to, and so far, it's proven that enough people DO want to watch Toonami on a set time of the week.
-
That, and one other certain thing.
.... and that.
......... and also that....
-
how many times has toonami removed a show due to poor ratings in the past?
They relegated Tenchi Muyo GXP to 3 AM because they sorely misjudged what kind of show it was and it got poor ratings. They allowed it to finish, but they never reran it.
The HD remastered tapes of Cowboy Bebop only played on Toonami for 4 episodes before the block was cut in half, and then so far, never again.
I'm not sure how frequent they kept taking shows off before they finished in the past though. In this case, the OP anime won't end for a long time! So OP being taken off Toonami before they caught up to the dub was always extremely high.
-
Mob Psycho would be a strange choice to replace JoJo since it's a FUNIMATION broadcast dub, but it also would probably do decent.
I do hope Toonami isn't done with JoJo though, either. Would love to see Stardust Crusaders air someday, even if the Roundabout season has done pretty lackluster.
It's not impossible because the dub is already complete (I think). However, it's only 12 episodes long, so they better dang well have another show lined up in 12 weeks after that. I would LOVE hearing Kurbipher ham it up on cable TV!
Zap2it: Tokyo Ghoul at 1 AM; Hunter x Hunter 1:30 AM; Gundam Unicorn 2 AM
in Toonami & [adult swim]

It was clearly just one of those shows that was "just there". And once it finished, Toonami didn't rerun it, and no one ever mentioned it again.
